Read MoreIndustrial metal group 3Teeth have officially released their covers of Sweet’s “Ballroom Blitz” and Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record).”
The band recorded these tracks, which you can hear below, for the film Guns Akimbo, which stars Daniel Radcliffe. When it came to recording the songs, the band didn’t have much time in the studio. Vocalist Alexis "Lex" Mincolla said:
"We were in the middle of an 8 week summer tour when Jason ( the director ) hit me up on twitter basically asking if we'd be interested in working on some music for his new movie. I thought his last film Deathgasm was super fun and when he told me the plot and showed me some scenes for Guns Akimbo I was immediately interested. He then told me the cover songs it would be which made me a little skeptical and than told me we basically had like 10 days to turn in masters which was pretty daunting because we literally had 1 day off on our tour schedule which landed 2 days before it needed to be turned in.
I knew it was going to be nearly impossible but I said fuck it, we'll make it happen. So after our show in Nashville we spent a full 12 hour day at Southern Ground studios and didn't leave till we had the tracks. I remember thinking to myself at one point, why fuck did I agree to this time frame and how badly everyone just wanted to sleep in on our day off but somehow someway it wall worked out and Jason and the producers loved the music. So the lesson learned here is, fuck days off.”
3Teeth’s last studio album was 2019’s Metawar.
Los Angeles’ Sonoda have unveiled their cover of Broadcast’s “Tears In The Typing Pool” today.
The track stems from Broadcast’s 2005’s studio album Tender Buttons. “May this bring solace to your soul as we get through these times. Black lives still matter, and the world still has so much to improve. Hopefully one day we’ll look back in disbelief at how much has changed for the better since 2020. It’s always possible,” Sonada said in a statement. You can hear Sonoda’s take on the song below.
Last month, the outfit unveiled their cover of The Sound’s “Night Versus Day” for the tribute album Do You Feel That Way Too? If you purchase the album on Bandcamp by September 1, you’ll be entered into a raffle to win one of two Fender guitars. All proceeds will go towards non-profit organization Painted Brain.
Weeks after the death of country singer Charlie Daniels, Korn have released their cover of “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” today.
For this track, the band are joined by rapper Yelawolf. The track was originally recorded back in 2019 when they were working on The Nothing. In a statement, Korn vocalist Jonathan Davis said:
“I’ve always said it, but country music is some of the darkest ever. Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, and, of course, Charlie Daniels all turned pain into some really powerful music that sounded alive. ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’ is a classic story, and we wanted to release it now to help others in need.”
All proceeds from the single, which can be purchased on Bandcamp, will go towards non-profit organization Awakening Youth. A special Korn x Awakening Youth patch can be purchased here.
Korn will talk about the cover and Awakening Youth on IG Live today at 6 p.m. EST/3 pm. PST.
Virginia metal group Inter Arma have unveiled their cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain” today. The cover stems from their forthcoming covers album Garbers Days Revisited.
In a statement, the band said:
"This was never meant to be heard publicly. It was meant to be outrageous- to be played late at night while laughing and drinking beer with our friends. Because that's what this is: Inter Arma covering the greatest pop song of the 1980s, and arguably of all time, by Prince, who HATED when people covered his music.
The vocals were done in one take by the drummer and not pitch corrected, because who else can sing like that? Prince. So we opted to stay honest and simple because we never thought that the general public would hear it. Once Relapse heard it there was a little bit of back and forth between the two camps and it was decided, reluctantly, to be included on the record.
We hope everyone enjoys this and gets a little bit of a chuckle because I think we could all use that right about now. Stay safe, stay outrageous, BLM.”
Garbers Days Revisited will include covers of Nine Inch Nails, Neil Young, and Cro-Mags. Pre-orders for the release can be made here. The album will be released on July 10. Inter Arma worked on the covers album while touring in support of their latest studio album Sulphur English.
With so much going on in the world, Darkwave outfit Drab Majesty decided to deliver something unexpected to fans.
Today, they’ve released a cover of Blind Melon’s “No Rain.” “I made in 2012/2013 on a Tascam 246 cassette 4 track. Happy to be able to share it today,” member Deb Demure said in a statement. Released in 1993, “No Rain” would become Blind Melon’s biggest song, peaking at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Drab Majesty’s cover, which was mastered by Josh Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv), coincides with Bandcamp’s No Fee Friday, which gives 100% of earnings to musicians today. It will be available on streaming platforms on May 4.
Drab Majesty have been busy promoting their latest studio album Modern Mirror.
