2020 Eisner Awards winners announced

Last night, the 2020 Eisner Awards took place, but it wasn’t in the traditional way. Because of the coronavirus, the ceremony was done over Zoom chat for the world to see. While this seemed odd for many, being able to present these awards was the most important thing.

At the ceremony, graphic novel Laura Dean Is Breaking Up with Me and comic book series Invisible Kingdom were the biggest winners with three awards each. Dark Horse earned the most wins for a publisher this year with five wins, including a shared win for Best Coloring (Dave Stewart).

You can check out the list of winners below. The ceremony, which was hosted by Phil LaMarr, can also be seen below. The list of nominees can be found here.

San Diego Comic-Con 2020 announce free digital event from July 22 through July 26

In May, San Diego Comic-Con teased a virtual event to make up for this year’s convention being cancelled. Today, they unveiled more details on San Diego Comic-Con @ Home.

Announced on Collider, the event will take place digitally from July 22 through July 26, and it’ll feature a slew of panels. “For the first time in our 50-year history, we are happy to welcome virtually anyone from around the globe. Though stay-at-home conditions makes this a very difficult time, we see this as an opportunity to spread some joy and strengthen our sense of community,” San Diego Comic Con spokesperson David Glanzer told Collider. Aside from panels, there will also be an online exhibition hall to purchase exclusive items. This will be free for everyone to view. More information will be released closer to the event.

San Diego Comic-Con will return to San Diego Convention Center from July 22 - 25, 2021.

San Diego Comic-Con 2020 cancelled due to coronavirus epidemic

For the first time ever, San Diego Comic-Con has been cancelled.

The announcement was made today on Comic-Con International’s front page. “Recognizing that countless attendees save and plan for its conventions each year, and how many exhibitors and stakeholders rely upon its events for a major portion of their livelihood, they had hoped to delay this decision in anticipation that COVID-19 concerns might lessen by summer. Continuous monitoring of health advisories and recent statements by the Governor of California have made it clear that it would not be safe to move forward with plans for this year,” the convention stated.

San Diego Comic-Con will return to San Diego Convention Center from July 22-25, 2021. Wondercon Anaheim, which was postponed last month, will return to the Anaheim Convention Center from March 26-28, 2021.

Anyone who purchased badges for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con can either request a refund or transfer them to next year’s event. An email will be sent to those people within the next week. Hotel reservations made through Comic-Con’s official hotel affiliate onPeak will be cancelled, and money will be refunded.

Dan Slott, Darcie Little Badger added to San Diego Comic-Con 2020

Yesterday, the folks behind San Diego Comic-Con have unveiled six new guests heading to the convention.

Writers Lorena Alvarez Gómez (Nightlights, Hicotea), Darcie Little Badger (Elatsoe, Strangelands) and Dan Slott (Fantastic Four, Iron Man 2020) will hit up the convention alongside artists Matthew Southworth (Stumptown co-creator), Lee Weeks (Batman, Daredevil, Gambit), and Mark Wheatley (Breathtaker, Frankenstein Mobster). They join previously announced guests such as Felicia Day, J. Michael Straczynski, and Ezra Claytan Daniels.

More guests for San Diego Comic-Con 2020 will be revealed next Monday (March 23). The convention will take place from July 23 to July 26 (preview night on July 22) at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California. More information about the convention can be found here.
