Los Angeles always has a plethora of events going down at every corner. Whether it’s a convention or some local stand-up comedy, there’s always something to do if you’re looking to leave the house. We look at some of the best events going down in Los Angeles this week (January 19 through January 25).
Wednesday, January 21
Tales From The Cell @ UCB Theatre (5919 Franklin Ave.)

Co-hosted by PJ McCormick & Jenn Bologna, Tales From The Cell will transform a real-life story involving a formerly incarcerated person into improvised magic at UCB Theatre. This show will feature Rico Get Me Lit telling their story with improvisers Monique Moses, James Mastraieni, Nnamdi Ngwe, Jessica Eason, Lucy Porter, and Joe Fahey crafting unique scenes from what they heard. Rico Get Me Lit will do improv for the first time ever as part of the final act. A portion of the proceeds will go towards The Bail Project. Livestream tickets are also available.
Gwyneth Goes Skiing @ The Elysian (1944 Riverside Dr.)

Awkward Productions' musical Gwyneth Goes Skiing will have a five-show stint (January 21 - January 24) at The Elysian this week. The musical revolves around the ski crash lawsuit between actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Terry Sanderson. The musical features Linus Karp as Paltrow and Joseph Martin as Sanderson.
Hellbent For Laughter @ Knucklehead Hollywood (6202 Santa Monica Blvd.)
Doors: 9 p.m. (free) 21+
Co-hosted by comedians Jake Bassi and Andrew Fahey, Hellbent For Laughter combines the love of comedy and metal in Hollywood. This week’s show will feature sets from Elizabeth Aziz, Joe Chlapowski, Ray Cameron, Chris Osburn, Stephanie Levy, and the show’s co-hosts. Jason Kaye will also be present delivering guitar riffs during the sets. Stay for metal karaoke after the show! The 21+ event is free to the public.
Friday, January 23
Plursona @ Los Globos (3040 W Sunset Blvd.)
Doors: 10 p.m. (tickets) 21+
A handful of tickets are left for Echopopstars and Prism Power’s collaborative event Plursona. Aside from dance music, the Persona-themed rave will feature a costume contest, vendors, games, and a photobooth. The show arrives on the same weekend as the sold-out Persona Live events in Los Angeles.
Saturday, January 24
Cold As Life, Strife @ 1720 (1720 E 16th St.)
Doors: 1 p.m. (tickets)
Detroit hardcore band Cold As Life will have their first-ever SoCal performance at 1720, and they're bringing a slew of friends for this special occasion. The show will include special performances from Strife and Ignite as well as sets from bands such as Section H8, Barrio Slam, and Scalp.
Lotsa Jokes: Standup Comedy at Hyperspeed! @ The Pack Theater (1615 North Vermont Ave.)
Doors: 6:50 p.m. (tickets)
Lotsa Jokes will bring together 20 comedians to tell as many jokes as they can in an hour over at The Pack Theater. Each comedian will tell one small joke before passing the mic off to the next comic.
Sunday, January 25
UCB 20th anniversary Improv Marathon @ UCB Theatre (5919 Franklin Ave.)

UCB's 20th anniversary improv marathon kicks off at 1 p.m., and it'll feature members of the theater collaborating with Los Angeles improv theaters WE Improv, World’s Greatest Improv, The Shared Experience, The Pack Theater, and The Groundlings for five exciting improv shows.
Pasadena Comic Con @ Pasadena Convention Center (300 E Green St.)

Pasadena Comic Con makes its annual appearance at the Pasadena Convention Center this Sunday. Confirmed guests for the convention include actress Tara Reid, Hey Arnold! creator Craig Bartlett, and voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch. Our photos from last year’s event can be seen here.
