Today, the streaming service unveiled the plot of the series, which will take place in two different timelines. The synopsis can be read below:
In the first timeline, 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world.
Cut to the second timeline, well over a decade into the future: there are less than fifteen million people left on Earth. And more than six billion monsters — people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now thirty, struggles to survive in this New World, while the secrets from her past — about her sister, her father and herself — continue to haunt her.
The series will be written by Andrew Dabb, who is best known for their work on Supernatural. Dabb will also be the showrunner and executive producer. In a statement, Dabb said:
“Resident Evil is my favorite game of all time. I'm incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world. For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before."
The Netflix series, which will run for eight episodes, comes from Constantin Film, who worked on the Resident Evil films. The film series earned a combined $1.2 billion, which makes it the highest-grossing video game film series of all time.
Today, Sony unveiled a slew of games arriving to the PlayStation 5 with their Future of Gaming event. With a mixture of indie and third-party titles, the lineup of games arriving to the console is impressive. We look at five games that stood out above the crowd during this 60+ minute presentation.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Nearly two years after the release of Spider-Man, fans have been wondering if a sequel would be in the works. Thankfully, Insomniac Games delivered big time with the announcement of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. In the game, Morales gets to fight crime in the Big Apple. The game will be released in late 2020.
Stray
Developed by BlueTwelve Studio, Stray finds players roaming the streets as a stray cat. This cute feline is on the hunt to find a way out, and they’re doing it with the aid of a flying drone named B12. The game will arrive on the PlayStation 5 sometime in 2021.
Resident Evil 8: Village
Resident Evil 8: Village is the next installment in the beloved Resident Evil franchise. In the game, Ethan Winters finds himself in a new horrific landscape thanks to Chris Redfield. The trailer begins with the sentence “His story comes to a close,” so this could mean the end for either Redfield or Winters. The game will find its way on the PlayStation 5 in 2021.
Bugsnax
From the developers of Octodad, Bugsnax finds the player inhabiting a world where creatures are made from food. There’s not much is known about this title, but it’s easily one of the most colorful games featured in the presentation. Also, you might find yourself humming the Bugsnax song, which is performed by British indie pop group Kero Kero Bonito, after viewing the trailer. Bugsnax will arrive on the PlayStation 5 in late 2020.
Deathloop
Developed by Arkane Lyon, Deathloop lets players control assassins Colt and Julianna. Colt’s main job is to take down eight individuals, but there’s a catch. Each time Colt dies, the character goes back to the beginning in a time loop. Julianna’s mission is to prevent Colt from breaking the time loop. This can be played with two people for a cat-and-mouse game or you can choose to play solo as Colt. Deathloop will arrive on the PlayStation 5 in late 2020.
After the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake, RE fans wanted Capcom to deliver the same presentation for Resident Evil 3. At today’s Sony's "State of Play" livestream, their wishes were granted with the official announcement of Resident Evil 3 remake, which arrives on April 3 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Aside from the main game, this remake will include the team based multiplayer game mode Resident Evil: Resistance.
Pre-orders for the game are live on their website. If you’re looking to drop more cash, the Collector’s Edition is also available. This includes an 11-inch Jill Valentine figure, an official art book, a Raccoon City survival map, and a digital copy of the soundtrack. All pre-orders will gain the Jill and Carlos Classic Costume Pack.
