Review: Bocchi The Rock! - episode five ("Flightless Fish")
Episode four of Bocchi the Rock! found the band dealing with their overall image whether it was a snappy band photo or a new heartfelt tune. The episode begins with Bocchi getting their first paycheck for their work at Starry. As expected, they had big plans for their newfound earnings, but unfortunately, they were reminded about their concert quota. With money in hand, the band had plans to perform at Starry again, but Nijika's older sister (and club manager) Seika shut them down. Their explanation? Seika wasn't too thrilled about Kessoku Band's previous performance at the club. If the band wanted another shot at performing in the venue, they had to audition for Seika.
To make sure their audition went smoothly, Ryo decided to do something drastically about the band's look. To Nijika's surprise, the remaining members of decided to don mop tops that were popularized by The Beatles. Fortunately, this was simply a clever trick courtesy of wigs.
When it came to the audition, the four-piece act knew they had to showcase their evolving abilities to Seika. Fortunately, a mesmerizing performance from the lively group did just that. It also turned Seika's attention towards Bocchi, who sees much more in the guitarist. The episode concludes with them gaining a gig, but the struggle for Bocchi will involve having to invite enough people to see them.
The theme for this episode involved the overall growth of the band so far. The band's debut show didn't sit well with Nijika, but they did manage to learn from their mistakes. The trio grew into a quartet, which enabled them to give their live show and overall sound a bit more pizzazz. Their overall approach towards the band saw huge growth with aspirations of gaining fans and building a solid reputation.
