The theme for this year’s Midsummer Scream event was unveiled yesterday.
This year’s theme will be horror musicals, and the convention will highlight this year’s theme with a special Repo: The Genetic Opera 20th anniversary celebration. Darren Lynn Bousman and Bill Moseley are confirmed for the convention with other names from the film being announced closer to the event. Other guests coming to Midsummer Scream this year include Matthew Lillard (Scream, Five Nights at Freddy’s), Barry Bostwick (Rocky Horror Picture Show), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream 5, 6, and 7, Yellowjackets). A special hand painted event poster from pop-culture artist Stephen Andrade, which can be seen below, showcases this year’s theme with nods to the Phantom of the Opera, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the music video for Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
David Markland, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Midsummer Scream said this about the theme:
“The year’s theme is for all of the theatre kids that are a huge part of the haunt and horror community. We will be honoring horror musicals of all kinds with a variety of panels, presentations, and performances all weekend. But if musicals aren’t your thing, we won’t have any less for horror fans looking to satisfy their thirst for slashers, scares, and gore.”
Passes for Midsummer Scream are available right now here. The convention will take place at the Long Beach Convention Center on August 7 through August 9. Our coverage of last year’s event can be seen here.
