Rising J-pop act cosmosy have been quickly gaining a following worldwide thanks to their debut EP The A(e)nd. In March, the group revealed their new EP ~ of the world ~, and they're looking to grow their eye=sy ("fandom"). This week, the group will appear at Anime Expo this Thursday for an interactive dance workshop and will team up with hello82 for a special fan meeting on Friday. We talked to the group about their new EP and upcoming appearance at Anime Expo.
MP3s and NPCs: cosmosy unveiled their second EP ~ of the world ~. What was the recording process like for this release?
himesha: For our first EP, I mainly rapped, so I felt right in my zone. But this second EP was a whole different story—it had a ton of high notes! Honestly, it was a huge challenge in the recording booth, and I had to practice like crazy. But thanks to that, I’ve grown so much as a vocalist.
de_hana: I’m naturally a low-toned vocalist, but this second EP actually had a ton of high notes. So I had to practice like crazy. It wasn't easy hitting those high registers in the booth, and for 'Silence,' I used a lot of falsetto. It made me realize that pulling off different genres takes massive effort—like, every new track is a whole new challenge for us.
kamión: Our second EP has a lot of high notes and falsetto, which I loved because it’s my style. While practicing 'Patience,' I thought, ‘lowering the pitch a bit would make the vocals more captivating.' So I shared my idea, and they actually used it! It was so amazing to see my own idea come to life in the song.
a'mei: Recording 'Chance' was so funny! The song is super cute and girly. But honestly, I'm more active, and not that feminine. So in the booth, I forced myself to make cute faces while singing, and it was so much fun.
MP3s and NPCs: The first EP dealt with awakening senses while this new release tackles love. Was it important to have each EP themed or was it something that happened naturally?
himesha: I’ve been dancing since I was a kid, so bringing big energy on stage for our first album felt natural. But this time, it’s all about love! I had to learn to express sweet emotions through my voice and facial expressions. It was totally new, but I really loved the challenge.
de_hana: Honestly, changing our vibe was huge. Our debut album was totally supernatural and spooky, but now that we're turning 20, we’re diving into real love! It made me realize that music is all about capturing the perfect feeling at the right moment.
kamión: For our first EP, we were just trying to find our style. Everything was new, so I only cared about not making mistakes. I felt like I had to be perfect. But for this second EP, we had more experience, so we could share our own ideas. Also, the second mini album is about love. Love is exciting, warm, and confusing all at once, so it was a bit hard to express. But through these songs, our music grew a lot, and we also grew as artists and as people.
a'mei: Our first album was super strong and mysterious! I learned how to burst out my energy. But our second EP is pure love. I learned a softer, sweet heart to express.
MP3s and NPCs: Just like your first EP the a(e)nd, the group unveiled multiple physical versions of the release. What was the inspiration for offering different versions?
cosmosy: With the a(e)nd, the concept was built around the six senses — each track on the EP was tied to a specific sense, so it felt very natural to extend that into the physical product as well. We wanted fans to be able to literally hold a piece of that world. Each version is centered around one member, and through that member, one sense to awaken — so depending on which version you choose, you're entering cosmosy's universe through a completely different door. It was really about giving fans a way to connect, not just collect.
With ~ of the world ~, the thinking was similar but rooted in the new narrative. This EP lives in a world where love exists alongside yokai — beings that don't belong in the human world but are drawn into it anyway. The three physical versions each carry an object tied to a different layer of cosmosy's identity: a bag, a ring, and incense. These aren't random inclusions — they represent the three sides of who cosmosy are: schoolgirls, idols, and yokai. So whichever version a fan picks up, they're holding a piece of that identity. We want the physical experience to feel like an extension of the story, not just merchandise.
MP3s and NPCs: You're going to be in Los Angeles for Anime Expo. What are you most looking forward to about your appearance?
himesha: We actually attended Anime Expo last year, and honestly, that crowd is still living rent- free in my mind. There’s just something so different about the energy when fans travel from all over the world. This year, instead of just rushing through the set, I really want to be in the zone and soak up every single second of it.
de_hana: Honestly, performing on stage and teaching our two main dance challenges directly to the crowd is gonna be so much fun. Plus, we’re doing an autograph session, and I’m just super excited to finally chill and connect with our global eye=sy up close. Everything about this trip feels so thrilling!
kamión: This year, we're bringing something even bigger and better! Our goal is to turn everyone in the crowd into an eye=sy. We can't wait to vibe with everyone through our dance workshop, and honestly, getting to meet our global fans at the autograph session is something I'm really looking forward to. I'm just excited for all of it!
a'mei: I’m so excited to perform at Anime Expo in LA! Teaching our dance to an audience will be super fun. And I can’t wait to meet our eye=sy fans and Anime fans from all around the world face-to-face. Honestly, I'm excited for everything!
MP3s and NPCs: Are any of the members anime fans? Which ones do you like and why?
himesha: I really love The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. The main character has superpowers, and I'm a huge fan of that kind of fantasy. He has all kinds of powers, including teleportation. I've always wanted to try teleporting myself! That way, I could just pop over to Disneyland whenever I feel like going.
de_hana: I’m a huge fan of Honey Lemon Soda! I’ve actually read the entire manga series. Miura is so handsome, and I love how he only has eyes for Uka. That totally stole my heart. I love it because it feels so realistic, like something that could actually happen in real life.
kamión: I’m a huge fan of Attack on Titan. I think it’s an anime that teaches you a lot, and everyone can interpret its message differently. There are so many lessons to learn from the story, which is one of the reasons I love it.
a’mei: I'm a huge anime fan! Lately, I've been obsessed with Chainsaw Man and Hell's Paradise. I love the dark vibes, fascinating worlds, and amazing characters. I also love all the crazy plot twists. You never know what's going to happen next! They're just so good.
MP3s and NPCs: What can fans expect from the group for the rest of the year?
himesha: We're going to share a lot of new music this year, so you can definitely look forward to seeing different sides of cosmosy! We'll also have more chances to meet our fans in person, so we'll keep working hard to show you our absolute best!
de_hana: We're dropping a lot of new music this year, and yes, with all kinds of different concepts! I can’t spill any more details right now, so make sure to follow us and stay tuned. We'll keep working hard to show you what cosmosy is truly all about!
kamión: We've been working on a lot of new tracks lately, so you're definitely going to see a whole new side of us this year! Plus, we're really looking forward to hanging out with our fans in person more often. We’re also focusing on improving our skills and staying healthy, so we can always show you our best!
a'mei: We are preparing more songs with totally new concepts this year! We will also have more fan meetings to see fans in person, and we want to visit many more countries. Big surprises are coming, so stay tuned, eye=sy!
