Twisted Metal live-action series in the works
Twisted Metal will officially be gaining a live-action series.
Announced today on Variety, the action comedy series will be executive produced by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Cobra Kai writer Michael Jonathan Smith will direct the series. This is the second collaboration for Sony Pictures TV and PlayStation Productions, who are also working on an adaptation of The Last of Us.
A synopsis for the forthcoming show reads:
“The show is about a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown named who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck, whom fans of the game will know as Sweet Tooth.”
In 2012, Sony Pictures announced plans for a Twisted Metal film adaptation, but the project was cancelled years later. Talks of a live-action series began in 2019.
The last Twisted Metal game released was the 2012 reboot on the PlayStation 3.
