The Mayan in Los Angeles will be closing its doors in a couple of months.

Revealed yesterday, The Mayan is set to close at the end of September following 35 years as one of the region’s most beloved nightclubs. The Mayan will hold its weekly dance events until September 13. The last scheduled concert at The Mayan will be Cold Waves XIII Los Angeles featuring Nitzer Ebb, Front Line Assembly, Mentallo & The Fixer, Clock DVA, Lead Into Gold, and Die Sexual on September 12.

A statement on social media reads:

“It is with heavy yet grateful hearts that we announce The Mayan will be closing its doors at the end of September, after 35 unforgettable years. To our loyal patrons, community and friends: thank you for your unwavering support, your trust and the countless memories we’ve created together. You made every night truly special.”

Originally a performance arts theater, The Mayan became a fixture of the DTLA nightclub scene. The venue was a filming location for movies such as The Bodyguard, A Night at the Roxbury, and Rock 'n' Roll High School.

Since 2009, MP3s and NPCs owner Terrance Pryor has written about music, conventions, cosplay, and video games for publications such as AXS, Examiner, Fake Walls, and Ranker.
