Los Angeles always has a plethora of events going down at every corner. Whether it’s a convention or some local stand-up comedy, there’s always something to do if you’re looking to leave the house. We look at some of the best events going down in Los Angeles this week (January 12 through January 18).
Tuesday, January 13
Drunk Theatre @ UCB Theatre (5919 Franklin Ave.)
Doors: 945 p.m. (tickets)
Drunk Theatre heads to UCB Theatre on Tuesday, and there's a handful of tickets left for the program. One comedian has to take five whisky shots in a row and attempt to perform alongside a sober cast. The cast for Tuesday's show includes Ittai Geiger, Sahil Desai, Cassie Grilley, Nate Deakers, Maria Gnoza, Rodd Naimi, and Bri Rodebaugh.
Thursday, January 15
Starlet @ The Elysian (1944 Riverside Dr.)
Doors: 7 p.m. (tickets)
Lily Lady's three-act play Starlet will have a handful of performances at The Elysian this week. The play follows a former child star who has suffered a massive career setback. Aphrodite Armstrong will play the titular character with Viva Gentes and Frank Mosley playing supporting roles. Thursday will feature performances at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. while a 7:30 p.m. performance is scheduled for Friday.
Pillow Fort Cinema Club @ The Pack Theater (1615 North Vermont Ave.)
Doors: 8:50 p.m. (tickets)
Hosted by Jupiter Baudot (writer for Game Grumps’ Ten Minute Power Hour), Pillow For Cinema Club is a cross between Mystery Science Theater 3000 and a slumber party. Attendees can win prizes via some wild challenges.
MVTANT, God Tongue @ Gold-Diggers (5632 Santa Monica Blvd.)
Doors: 7 p.m. (tickets) 21+
San Antonio dark electronic act MVTANT will headline Gold-Diggers on Thursday. The artist will be promoting their debut album Electronic Body Horror, which was released last year. Seattle synthpunk/EBM act God Tongue and Los Angeles-based electronic artist Chad Fjerstad (More Ephemerol, ex-Dead To Fall) will perform. Los Angeles dark electronic duo Dildox will deliver a special DJ set.
Saturday, January 17
The Matinee @ UCB Theatre (5919 Franklin Ave.)
Doors: 5:15 p.m. (free)
The Matinee offers an hour of laughter at a reasonable time so you can get ready for the night afterwards. Saturday's show is free to the public. The cast for Saturday's show will be revealed soon.
Revolution 2 Presents: Improv to Save Music! @ The Shared Experience Studio (5216 Hollywood Blvd.)
Doors: 8:45 p.m. (tickets)
Improv duo Revolution 2 will gather a slew of improvisers and musicians to save music at The Shared Experience Studio. 15 improvisers will be split into three teams to help deliver performances that'll inspire improved music from the live band. Revolution 2's Lexie Skye and Marco Torres will perform a set based on lyrics from the improvised tunes. Formal attire is encouraged for this special occasion.
Salvatore Ganacci @ The Bellwether (333 S. Boylston St.)

DJ/producer Salvatore Ganacci will bring their electric performance to The Bellwether on Saturday night. This year, the Grammis winner surprised everyone by becoming a playable character in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. The producer also delivered some original tracks for the game's soundtrack.
Since 2009, MP3s and NPCs owner Terrance Pryor has written about music, conventions, cosplay, and video games for publications such as AXS, Examiner, Fake Walls, and Ranker. Based out of Los Angeles, the former rock concert promoter/radio host can be seen talking about rock music on AXS TV’s Music’s Greatest Mysteries and discussing music and whatever else on their Black Man Talks Rock channel on YouTube.
