PAX East made its return over the weekend, which means a plethora of forthcoming games were ready to be tested by potential fans. From RPGs to side-scrollers, everyone walked away with a couple new titles placed in their wishlist. These games were some of the best seen on the show floor.

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars

Video game publisher TinyBuild announced a brand-new title at PAX East, and curious fans were able to try it out on the floor. Asterigos: Curse of the Stars, which is being developed by Acme Gamestudio, follows Hilda, who has to save their father and discover why the City of Aphes has been plagued with a haunting curse. The game had a very Souls-like approach, but it doesn't leave the player to die multiple times. With a very simple combat system, this could be a great introduction to the popular FromSoftware series. The game is slated to be released this fall on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox X/S, and PC.

Writer's Block

Writer's Block delivers something unique for fans of roguelike titles. Developed by Tic Toc Games, the title can be considered Slay The Spire meets Scrabble. Players must create words to deal damage to their opponents. As the battle progresses, however, enemies can force players to reach for their word finders. Some opponents can make certain letters hurt the player if they're not used while others can lower the damage done to the opponent if they're used. A demo of Writer's Block, which will arrive this August, is available on Steam right now.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge

Fans of the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games were already throwing their money at developer Tribute Games and publisher Dotemu upon the announcement of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. Inspired by those beloved games, this side-scrolling title finds the heroes in a half shell battling their longtime foes throughout Manhattan. If that's not enough, the game features Townsend Coleman, Barry Gordon, Cam Clarke, and Rob Paulsen respectively reprising their roles as Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael. The game will arrive on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC later this year.

Urban Venture

Urban Venture didn't have a playable demo on the show floor, but the overall premise was quite interesting. In this sim title based in Barcelona, you play as a driver, whose main goal is to be the best driver in town and eventually run their own transportation company. Unlike those taxi missions in Grand Theft Auto, players can't break the law to get from point A to point B. Obeying the rules of the road will lead to more money in your bank account. Urban Venture will go into Early Access on PC later this year with an early 2023 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Wishlist it on Steam right now.

Cursed To Golf

Spending the rest of their lives golfing sounds great for many retired folks around the world. Unfortunately for one individual, this is a complete nightmare. In Cursed To Golf, players control The Cursed Golfer, who has to make it through Golf Purgatory to return back to life. Blending roguelike mechanics with golfing gameplay makes this game frustratingly entertaining. One wrong swing and you're back at the start all over again. A demo for Cursed To Golf is available on Steam right now. Cursed To Golf will be released later this year on PC, Xbox One, Xbox X/S, and the Nintendo Switch.

World Championship Boxing Manager 2

World Championship Boxing Manager 2 is ideal for those looking for a great management game. In the title, which is the sequel to 1991's World Championship Boxing Manager, you become a boxing manager training some newcomers in the ring. You do this by setting up their weekly schedule with a slew of strenuous activities such as running a marathon and swimming. You have to throw in some rest days to prevent any potential injuries or burnout. Through weekly tournaments, you can earn some money and reputation boost via wins. During each match, you can give your boxer some bonuses such as a health increase or a stamina boost. The game can be wishlisted on Steam right now.

WrestleQuest

WrestleQuest, which has potential to be game of the year, was on the show floor, and the demo didn’t disappoint at all. Non-wrestling fans would find themselves hooked on the RPG gameplay while casual and diehard wrestling fans will be drawn to the story of a wrestler trying to be in the same conversation as wrestlers such as Andre the Giant, Macho Man Randy Savage, and Jake The Snake Roberts.
