Announced today, the series is being created by Craig Mazin, who earned a slew of accolades from Chernobyl. While most video game adaptations don’t have much input from their creators, The Last of Us writer Neil Druckmann will be on board to write this forthcoming series. This will be the first TV series produced by PlayStation Productions, who are currently working on a film based on their Uncharted series.
Released in 2013, The Last of Us was unanimously praised for its grand storytelling and gameplay. At the 17th Annual DICE Awards, the game won 10 of its 13 nominations, including Game of the Year and Outstanding Innovation in Gaming.
The Last of Us Part II, which follows protagonist Elle five years after the first game’s ending, is slated to be released on May 29 via the PlayStation 4. Pre-orders for the highly anticipated sequel can be made here.
