Super Mario World soundtrack gets restored
The soundtrack for Super Mario World has gained a major restoration thanks to a group of dedicated fans.
On Twitter, The Brickster shared information about how these restored tracks came to light. Thanks to the Nintendo Gigaleak, some individuals discovered the source code for Super Mario Advance on the Game Boy Advance reused several samples from Super Mario World. The end result can be heard below.
When it comes to some criticism from fans, The Brickster, who has a Q&A thread on Twitter, stated:
"These do not sound good" "I prefer the originals", and comments like that, I see where you are coming from. Truthfully, these tracks were likely not designed with the full patches in mind. These are simply things we are doing for fun, as a "what if" kinda thing.
What if Kondo wasnt limited to the small sound ram size, and he could use sounds to their fullest? We may never know if he did, of course, since no demo versions of tracks for Super Mario World were ever officially released, but these I think would be similar to such tracks.”
Released in 1990, Super Mario World became the best-selling game on the Super Nintendo with over 20 million copies sold. People wanting to relive the game and those wanting to dive in for the first time can play it as part of Nintendo Switch Online.
