Pokemon Sword and Shield hit stores on November 15

In about 15 minutes, today’s Pokemon Direct managed to deliver a plethora of information on the forthcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield.

The story finds you in the Galar region as you and your rival Hop traverse to find and strengthen their Pokemon. Like every other Pokemon game, your main goal is to take down the Pokemon champion. The champion in this region is named Leon, and he’s happens to be Hop’s older brother. Helping you out on your journey are Professor Magnolia and her granddaughter Sonia.

A major addition to the battle is called Dynamax, which makes your Pokemon grow to a monumental size and give them a huge power boost. This mode only lasts for three turns and can only be used once per battle.

Sword and Shield will be unique with its brand new co-op mode Max Raid Battle. In this mode, you and three other players take on a Dynamax Pokemon. Unlike normal battles, these Dynamax Pokemon stay in that form for the whole duel. Unfortunately, all four of you can’t whip out your Dynamax Pokemon at once. Only one Pokemon from the entire team can gain Dynamax powers during this battle. If you defeat the Dynamax Pokemon, you’ll have a chance to catch it. Some of these Pokemon can only be caught this way. This can be played locally or with other trainers online.

When it comes to new Pokemon, fans will surely be pleased with newcomers Wooloo, Gossifleur, Dreadnaw, and Corviknight. Pokemon evolution is key, and fans got to see Gossifleur transform into Eldegoss. The Direct closed things with the reveal of legendary Pokemon Zacian and Zamazenta.

Pokemon Sword and Shield will arrive on the Nintendo Switch on November 15. Pre-orders for the game are live right now on the Pokemon website. As expected, more information about the game will be revealed in the following weeks.
