Olivia Rodrigo unveils new single "Vampire"
Pop artist Olivia Rodrigo has given fans a taste of their forthcoming studio album Guts today.
“Vampire” was produced by and co-written with Daniel Nigro, who produced Rodrigo’s platinum-selling debut album Sour. Rodrigo said this about the song, which offers a different vibe from their previous material:
“I was upset about a certain situation and went to the studio alone and sat down at the grand piano, and the chords and melody and lyrics just poured out of me — almost like an out-of-body experience. It’s a song about feeling confused and hurt, and at first I thought it was meant to be a piano ballad. But when Dan and I started working on it, we juxtaposed the lyrics with these big drums and crazy tempo changes. So now it’s like a heartbreak song you can dance to.”
An accompanying music video for the song, which can be seen below, was directed by Petra Collins. The director previously worked with Rodrigo on their visuals for “brutal” and “good 4 u.”
Guts is slated for a September 8 release via Geffen. Pre-orders for the album can be made here. A limited-edition physical “Vampire” single, which includes a demo version of the song, can be purchased here. “Vampire” is on digital services right now.
