New York bedroom chamber music artist Matt Bachmann will unveil their new studio album in September.
Announced yesterday, Compost Karaoke will be released on September 12 via Orindal Records. For the album, Bachmann enlisted the aid of drummer Derek Baron, saxophone/clarinet player Jeff Tobias, and percussionist James Krivchenia to bring these tracks to life alongside a slew of special guest musicians.
Following years of touring alongside Mega Bog and their own solo work, Bachmann became a licensed social worker. The album reflects upon the changes in Bachmann’s life since holding down a new job. Bachmann said this about the record:
“At the heart of this transition was a personal struggle between the ‘clouds’ (art) and the ‘earth’ (the systemic problems of New York/US/world). Doing this more earthly work and having less time for the clouds changed my relationship to music. I had been so inside the music world that I had become blind to its generosity– the way it brings us together and allows us to collectively feel, dream, and escape. Making this record was a lifeline– an opportunity to put my sometimes isolating earthly work aside, and dream a bit with friends.”
The first single from the record titled "TIAGDTD" arrives with a music video featuring choreography from Bachmann and Sophia Treanor. The music video can be seen here. Pre-orders for the record can be made here.
