Singer-songwriter Lucy Gooch has announced their forthcoming release.

Today, they revealed their Rain’s Break EP, which is set to arrive on June 25 via Fire Records. For this release, Gooch found inspiration from Powell and Pressburger films. As part of the announcement, the artist unveiled the title track from the release, which is inspired by the ending of 1947’s Black Narcissus. Gooch said this about the release:

“That amazing tradition in early film of using weather to reflect the character’s emotional journey - it seems cliched now but at the time it was revolutionary. This is my attempt at trying to recreate the feeling of total surrender to drama, of something totally sensual.”

The music video for the tune, which you can see below, was directed by Derrick Belcham, and it features a performance by Stephanie Crousillat. When discussing the visual, Belcham said:

“I imagined a character who longs to be connected but pushes another away when they get too close… a character in search of balance and in need of a release from a cycle that has been ruling her. I think the image of these artificial lights in a natural landscape had been haunting me for a long time now, and it was such a joy to hear Lucy’s gorgeous composition and find a home for this dynamic woman in the woods and her transformation.”

Pre-orders for Rain’s Break can be made here. This is the follow-up to Gooch’s 2020 debut EP Rushing.
