Lil Nas X announced as President of League of Legends, releasing Worlds anthem "Star Walkin'"
League of Legends will now be run by a Grammy-winning artist.
Today, Riot Games announced that Lil Nas X is the new president of League of Legends. The artist will celebrate the new job with the release of the new Worlds anthem “Star Walkin’,” which will be released on September 23. Pre-saves for “Star Walkin’” can be made here. An announcement video can be seen below.
Aside from the new anthem, the artist will work with Riot Games on a new cosmetic skin for new League champion K’Sante the Pride of Nazumah. The skin will be available from November 3 through November 14. The skin can’t be purchased; fans can earn it through playing League of Legends and/or Teamfight Tactics to gain 2,000 Worlds 2022 tokens. Lil Nas X will also perform live at the Worlds Finals Opening Ceremony at the Chase Center in San Francisco on Saturday, November 5.
Lil Nas X said this about their new position:
“I felt like it was time for me to try something new. I’ve left my mark on pop culture in so many ways, and now it’s time to take on the world of gaming. I will be the greatest President of League of Legends, of all time. Also I’m going to make the best Worlds anthem of all time and put on the biggest, coolest, sexiest Worlds in the history of all Worlds! STAR WALKIN’ is the only song anyone is allowed to listen to from now on. Swag fr!”
Naz Aletaha, Global Head of League Esports for Riot Games also said:
“Lil Nas X is the most electrifying name in music, so when he showed up at our headquarters and told us that he wanted to be President of League and join us throughout Worlds, we of course said ‘yes’. We’ve all been blown away by his vision, passion, and undeniable style, and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the Worlds stage in San Francisco this November.”
Lil Nas X is currently working on their sophomore studio album. This year, the artist unveiled the singles "Late to da Party" and "Down Souf Hoes." The artist is currently on their first-ever headlining tour across North America. Tickets for the trek can be purchased here.
League of Legends will make its way to Xbox Game Pass on PC this winter. Through Game Pass, players will have all characters unlocked plus day-one access to future characters.
