Rising London singer-songwriter July Jones has unveiled their new single “2020 Girls” today.

Sampling Cyndi Lauper’s smash hit “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” the track comes equipped with a vibrant music video directed by Rosin O'Hare. When it comes to the new track and video, Jones said:

“2020 Girls is about showing the new era of women empowerment. With its lyrics which some people might find provocative, 2020 Girls shows women in a less emotional light. The chorus being “fuck him on the first date, tell him that he can’t stay, 2020 no shame,” I tried to show its okay to have one-night stands, multiple lovers as a woman.

I also wanted to emphasize on a diversity of women by including trans women and women from different ethnical background in the music video, breaking down a stereotype of what a woman looks like and how a woman should behave.”

Jones is currently working on new music with producers Sacha Skarbek (Adele, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus), Naughty Boy and Raul Refree (Rosalia). Fans can expect to hear some new material in the new year.

Since 2009, MP3s and NPCs owner Terrance Pryor has written about music, conventions, cosplay, and video games for publications such as AXS, Examiner, Fake Walls, and Ranker. Based out of Los Angeles, the former rock concert promoter/radio host can be seen talking about rock music on AXS TV’s Music’s Greatest Mysteries and discussing music and whatever else on their Black Man Talks Rock channel on YouTube.
