Hawaiian singer-songwriter Eli Smart releases new song “Done Me," playing Los Angeles this week
Hawaiian singer-songwriter Eli Smart released their new single “Done Me” on Friday.
“Done Me” is the first piece of new music from Smart since the release of their Aloha Soul EP back in November. The artist said this about the tune, which is out on digital services via Polydor/Geffen Records:
“I wrote and recorded ‘Done Me’ with my flat mate/dummer/producer/best mate James Kerr in our flat in Lewisham. We’ve been playing together since university up Liverpool (James’ hometown), and this was one of the first times we’d ever properly sat down to write and record a tune together.
If I remember correctly, we’d just come off a pretty busy touring period and were in need of some sunshine and sleep. I’d been listening to a Georgie Fame tune, ‘Yeh Yeh’, and I’m sure James was listening to something crazy cool as he always is, and we got the feel of the tune we were making quite quickly. I whistle all the time (probably gets annoying to everyone around me) so it was a breeze to come up with a whistle melody over such a lively groove. The rest of the tune came very naturally, and we just danced around my room writing words to it. It definitely gave us a version of the sunshine we were yearning for.”
Smart will be in Los Angeles for two performances: School Night on Monday (January 23) and Winston House on Wednesday (January 25). Tickets for both performances are on sale to the general public right now.
