Feminist punk band Cheap Perfume have delivered their new song “Down To Riot” today.
Guitarist/co-vocalist Jane No said this about the single, which can be heard here:
“An early inspiration for this song was hearing so many people after the pandemic complaining that ‘No one wants to work anymore.’ I wanted to yell, ‘No s**t, and neither do you!’ No one actually wants to spend the majority of their lives working for someone else’s profit instead of making art and spending time with the people they love. And we certainly don’t want to work for poverty wages. So that frustration evolved into a working-class anthem that calls for the 99% to rise up against the 1%. Music-wise, we wanted it to be really chaotic and loud, which I think is perfect for the lyrics.”
The song’s release comes a day before Cheap Perfume’s performance at Punk In The Park tomorrow. The band will also perform at Denver’s Underground Music Showcase on July 27. Tickets can be purchased here.
