Australian hardcore punk band Vilify release new single "Futility"
Australian hardcore punk band Vilify dropped their new single "Futility" today.
For the track, the band worked with producer Chris Blancato, who previously worked with Northlane, Glass Ocean, and Bare Bones. Vocalist Amy McIntosh said this about the hard-hitting new song:
"I know we are all sick of hearing about it, but this song was written in and about the height of the COVID lockdowns. It's about feeling abandoned. It's about feeling lost. This song came together in a time when music was at a stand-still. We had all lost the most important thing to us, Music. Our community was pretty much abandoned and left to rot. That feeling of rot and despair made its way into my mind, just as it did to so many other artists I know. We felt worthless. Sports were being played to thousands of people yet many of us who worked and lived for this industry were struggling to put food on the table. We lost venues, we lost friends, we lost faith. I did not want to live anymore. Futility had taken over."
An accompanying music video, which can be seen here, was directed, filmed, and edited by McIntosh, who said this about the visual:
"[The video]...is based on a recurring dream I keep having. I believe I am commonly regarded as a pretty cheerful person and this video is sort of my side of that. Constantly forcing cheerfulness and happiness especially over the last few years has begun to feel like I am suffocating. Suffocating on a bouquet of false joy. That's what this song felt like. It felt like I was constantly spitting this garbage positivity that I did not believe in for the sake of others. All in all. Self care is important. True honest connections with others is even more so."
"Futility" will be released on digital services tomorrow (June 3).
