It’s hard to escape those pop-punk and emo phases, and on Tuesday, many people had instant flashbacks to their high school days with the reveal of the When We Were Young festival. Co-headlined by My Chemical Romance and Paramore, the one-day event, which takes place on October 22 at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, features a slew of bands plastered in various Spotify playlists, including Taking Back Sunday, Hawthorne Heights, and Jimmy Eat World.

With so many acts on the festival, there are some bands many people wanted to see that didn’t make the cut. While we don’t know if these five acts were asked to perform, they would’ve been a sight to see during the one-day event. Sugarcult

Santa Barbara pop-punk group Sugarcult took over the radio with hits such as "Bouncing Off The Walls", "Do It Alone," and "Pretty Girl (The Way)." Following some sporadic performances in 2011, the band have been keeping quiet, but they still have an active social media presence. The band’s last studio album was 2006’s Lights Out.

Set Your Goals

San Francisco pop-punk act Set Your Goals became pals with several acts on When We Were Wrong, whether it's Hayley Williams appearing on the song "The Few That Remain" or touring with Armor For Sleep on the 2008 Bamboozle Roadshow. Following some tour dates in 2015, Set Your Goals had some sporadic appearances at Warped Tour and the first When We Were Young Festival back in 2017. Their last studio album was 2011’s Burning at Both Ends.

Anarbor

Hailing from Phoenix, pop-punk band Anarbor spent a vast majority of time touring with acts such as The Almost, A Rocket To The Moon, and Mayday Parade. Their fan favorite tune "Let the Games Begin" was featured on The Hills, the MLB Network Countdown, and the NFL Playoffs. In 2020, the act unveiled their Tangerine EP. With their 20th anniversary coming in 2023, fans can expect something big from the band.

Matchbook Romance

Poughkeepsie emo rock band Matchbook Romance made three consecutive appearances on the Vans Warped Tour gaining new fans at every turn. While they delivered a grand emo record with their 2003 debut album Stories and Alibis, the band took a sharp turn with 2006's Voices. With a much darker tone, the album spawned the single "Monsters," which was featured in Madden 07 and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The band reunited for some performances at the 2015 Warped Tour and a pair of 2016 dates in support of Voices’ 10-year anniversary.

Plain White T's

Illinois pop-rock band Plain White T's cut their teeth in the Chicago underground scene before exploding in 2006 with their number-one hit "Hey There Delilah." The cut, which was written about a meeting with runner Delilah DiCrescenzo, earned two Grammy nominations and has been pitched as a potential TV show. Following singles such as "1, 2, 3, 4" and "Rhythm of Love" helped gain the band two more platinum plaques in their name. The band’s last studio album was 2018’s Parallel Universe.
