Xbox 360 store is closing next July
Xbox 360 owners will have less than a year to purchase anything for the console.
Xbox announced plans to shut down Xbox 360’s store on July 29, 2024. The Microsoft Movies & TV app will also shut down that same day. After July 29, Xbox 360 owners can still play games and DLC they purchased prior to the store closing. Multiplayer games can also still be played as long as their online servers are still working.
Xbox 360 backward-compatible titles won’t be affected by this news, which means Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S can still grab Xbox 360 titles for their newer consoles. Unfortunately, the store shutting down means a plethora of digital only games will be lost forever, including Duke Nukem 3D, Mortal Kombat Arcade, Valiant Hearts: The Great War, and The Wolf Among Us. A list of what games will be unavailable to purchase after July 29 can be found over on Video Games Chronicle.
A statement from the company reads:
A lot has changed since the Xbox 360 launched in 2005. Technology has evolved, expectations from players have shifted, and we are focused on making Xbox Series X|S the best place to play now and in the future.
What has not changed is our commitment to preserving your ability to play the content you have already purchased on your preferred device, which means we are committed to supporting Xbox 360 gameplay for the foreseeable future – and you will still be able to play and re-download previously purchased content and connect with friends.
