Wave Race 64 heads to Nintendo Switch Online this Friday

Owners of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will get another exciting game very soon.

Announced yesterday, Wave Race 64 will be coming to the service this Friday (August 19). Released in 1996 on the Nintendo 64, Wave Race 64 sold nearly 2 million copies in the United States and has been listed as one of the best racing titles of all time by various publications. In 2001, a sequel titled Wave Race: Blue Storm was released for the Nintendo Gamecube. So far in 2022, the Nintendo 64 portion of Nintendo Switch Online has seen titles such as Pokémon Snap, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a Wave Race game in over 20 years. In 2012, Nintendo renewed the Wave Race copyright, which means there’s still a chance of a Wave Rave revival somewhere down the line.

Since 2009, MP3s and NPCs owner Terrance Pryor has written about music, conventions, cosplay, and video games for publications such as AXS, Examiner, Fake Walls, and Ranker. Based out of Los Angeles, the former rock concert promoter/radio host can be seen talking about rock music on AXS TV’s Music’s Greatest Mysteries and discussing music and whatever else on their Black Man Talks Rock channel on YouTube.
