The Game Awards 2022 to air on December 8, new Best Adaptation category announced

An official date for the 2022 Game Awards has been announced today.
The video game award show will take place on December 8 from Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater. This year’s ceremony will introduce the new category Best Adaptation, which celebrates the best in video game adaptations in theatrical movies, streaming shows, podcasts, novels, comic books, and more. The Game Awards founder Geoff Keighley said this about the category:
“The Best Adaptation Award is a way for the gaming industry and its fans to tip its hat to creative work that authentically adapts and often adds lore and context to our favorite gaming franchises. With so many game-inspired projects across entertainment, the time is right to honor excellence in adapting video game worlds to other mediums.”
While last year’s ceremony was an invite-only deal, there are plans to have tickets go on sale to the general public this fall pending CDC and Los Angeles health and safety guidelines. Aside from being viewed on various streaming services around the world, this year’s ceremony will also be viewed in IMAX theaters.
Last year’s ceremony delivered a record-setting 85 million global livestreams.
