Los Angeles always has a plethora of events going down at every corner. Whether it’s a convention or some local stand-up comedy, there’s always something to do if you’re looking to leave the house. We look at some of the best events going down in Los Angeles this week (January 5 through January 11).
Tuesday, January 6
50 First Jokes @ Regent Theater (448 S Main St.)
Doors: 8 p.m. (tickets)
There's a handful of tickets left for the 14th annual 50 First Jokes event at Regent Theater. The event will feature 50 comedians delivering their first joke of the new year. Reggie Watts, Babs Gray, and Ify Nwadiwe are among the comics featured at the comedy show.
Play by Play @ UCB Theatre (5919 Franklin Ave.)
Doors: 9:45 p.m. (tickets)
Play by Play will celebrate its one-year anniversary at UCB on Tuesday. The show features commentators Will Hines and Brett Morris giving play-by-play discussions about the improv scene taking place. May Darmon, Jon Gabrus, Alexis Rhiannon, Carl Tart, Jess Uhler, Jim Woods, and Lamar Woods will be the improv guests. Livestream tickets are also available.
Wednesday, January 7
Good Sandwich & Ugly Cry @ The Pack Theater (1615 North Vermont Ave.)

Pack Theater house sketch teams Good Sandwich and Ugly Cry will deliver 90 minutes of comedy on Wednesday. Good Sandwich features Jack Boston, Aine Geraghty, Greg St. Greg, Mackenzie Horras, Jake Knox, Samantha Manning, Charlotte Morrisey, Ronny Pascale, Eric Phillips, Alex Ramirez, Anika Ramlo, Corey Taft, and Kaley Vetter. Ugly Cry includes Julia Brekka, Gabbi Boyd, Steen Catucci, Andrew Cawley, Alex Collyard, Bry Gallagher, Katie Goldston, Nishant Harshe, Mitch Kamaiopili, Travis Kehoe, Tommy Kang, Carolyn Moore, and Dan Weller.
Friday, January 9
Weatherbox @ The Goldfish (5043 York Blvd.)
Doors: 7 p.m. (tickets) (21+)
San Diego indie rock band Weatherbox will headline The Goldfish on Friday. Last year, the band revealed The Compass EP, which includes six previously unreleased songs written during the Follow The Rattle Of The Afghan Guitar sessions. King of Heck and one band TBA will also perform.
Asian AF @ UCB Theatre (5919 Franklin Ave.)

Asian AF will take part of this year's SF Sketchfest, and they're giving the Los Angeles crowd a special warm-up show before the event. The full lineup for this show will be revealed soon.
Saturday, January 10
LTFM x Tamagotchi @ Little Tokyo Galleria (333 S Alameda St.)
Doors: 12 p.m. (free to the public)
Little Tokyo Flea Market will deliver Tamagotchi goodness at the Little Tokyo Galleria this Saturday. Over 50 vendors will be on hand to showcase all things Tamagotchi, including clothes, tattoos, and art.
Riff Raff with Billy Myers III @ The Comedy Store (Belly Room) (8433 Sunset Blvd.)
Doors: 11:15 p.m. (tickets) 21+
Riff Raff with Billy Myers III is the most unpredictable comedy show in Los Angeles. Comedians will bounce between diving into random topics on stage and engaging in wild challenges such as cutting a wrestling promo on stage and engaging in an arm wrestling contest. This week's show will feature comedians Chris Estrada, Martin Morrow, Kat Bird, Callahan Welsh, Kylie Vincent, Alex Hooper, and Dj Mo Alfy.
Since 2009, MP3s and NPCs owner Terrance Pryor has written about music, conventions, cosplay, and video games for publications such as AXS, Examiner, Fake Walls, and Ranker. Based out of Los Angeles, the former rock concert promoter/radio host can be seen talking about rock music on AXS TV’s Music’s Greatest Mysteries and discussing music and whatever else on their Black Man Talks Rock channel on YouTube.
