Los Angeles always has a plethora of events going down at every corner. Whether it’s a convention or some improv, there’s always something to do if you’re looking to leave the house. We look at some of the best events going down in Los Angeles this week (August 3 through August 9).

Thursday, August 6

L.A. Industrial Battle of the Bands @ The Slipper Clutch (351 S Broadway)

Doors: 8 p.m. (tickets)

L.A. Industrial's Battle of the Bands will go down this Thursday at The Slipper Clutch with Solemn Assembly, Fact Pattern, and Sleep Kills competing for a special prize. The show will feature a headlining performance from Matt Hart.

Friday, August 7

Midsummer Scream @ Long Beach Convention Center (300 E Ocean Blvd.)

Doors: 6 p.m. (tickets)

Midsummer Scream is this weekend, and a limited number of tickets for Friday and Sunday still remain. The three-day Halloween/horror convention will feature appearances from John Carpenter, Bill Moseley, and a special 30th anniversary reunion of the Scream cast. Improv Legends Season 2 @ The Stray Theater (4319 Melrose Ave.)

Doors: 6:45 p.m. (tickets)

Improv Legends returns for season 2 at The Stray Theater this Friday. The improv competition pits a slew of performers together for a special multi-week event. Lindsey Mallard, Bayley Ellenburg, Eric Chad Ho, and Freddy Boyd are some of the performers involved in this grand competition. Following the competition, improv group Alapaca Lips will deliver a special improv set. The team features Katie Hampton, Corey Taft, Trevor Waggoner, Charlie Fay, Aidan Watt, and Stanson Chung.

Dead of Night @ The Pack Theater (1615 North Vermont Ave.)

With Midsummer Scream going down this weekend, Dead of Night is the perfect choice for any pre-convention spooky-filled activities. Moderated and hosted by Gabe Legg, Dead of Night will bring together a slew of performers to play a dramatic game of Werewolf. This week's event features Ally Johnson, Dani Bryan, Gabi Marler, Jon Barr, Joshua Ewing, Lena Lamer, Richard Lee, Rory Kulz, and Sarah Kylie.

Saturday, August 8

MultiCon 2026 @ Skirball Cultural Center (2701 N Sepulveda Blvd.)

Doors: 11 a.m. (tickets)

MultiCon celebrates all things fandom inside the Skirball Cultural Center. Some of the featured guests for this event include Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, Hey Arnold creator Craig Barlett, and content creator Angelica Trae.

Sunday, August 9

QT's presents Joy @ UCB Theatre (5919 Franklin Ave.)

A slew of trans/gnc/non binary improvisers will come together to reenact your favorite memories at QT's presents Joy. The list of performers for Sunday's show features Alex Song-Xia (they/them), Charlie James (he/him), Chris Renfro (they/them), D.J. Mausner (they/them), E.R. Fightmaster (they/them), Jiavani (she/him), Jordan Myrick (they/she), Krys Tabujara (they/them), Laser Webber (he/they), Lyndsey Frank (they/them), Nick Tiffany (they/any pronouns), and Ruha Taslimi (they/them).

Since 2009, MP3s and NPCs owner Terrance Pryor has written about music, conventions, cosplay, and video games for publications such as AXS, Examiner, Fake Walls, and Ranker. Based out of Los Angeles, the former rock concert promoter/radio host can be seen talking about rock music on AXS TV’s Music’s Greatest Mysteries and discussing music and whatever else on their Black Man Talks Rock channel on YouTube.
