August is here, which means summer is only a few weeks away from ending. It also means a month to celebrate some great anniversaries. When it comes to video games and music, there are several releases to be acknowledged. We look at 10 of the best anniversaries in both music and gaming arriving this month.

Metallica - The Black Album - (August 12) 30th anniversary

What else is there to say about The Black Album? Co-produced by the band and Bob Rock, the album spent a mind-blowing 550 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 chart. On September 10, the band will celebrate the album’s 30th anniversary with The Metallica Blacklist, which features a slew of musicians covering the album.

From Autumn To Ashes - Too Bad You're Beautiful - (August 14) 20th anniversary

Long Island post-hardcore group From Autumn To Ashes came out swinging with their debut album Too Bad You're Beautiful, which dropped on August 14, 2001 via Ferret Records. From the album opener "The Royal Crown vs. Blue Duchess" to the heartbreaking finale "Short Stories With Tragic Endings," this 10-track album is one of the genre’s most treasured releases.

The Faint - Danse Macabre - (August 21) 20th anniversary

Synthpunk act The Faint's fourth studio album Danse Macabre, which arrived on August 21, 2001 via Saddle Creek Records, managed to arrive with some controversy; the music video for opening track "Agenda Suicide" was banned from MTV for its depiction of suicide. The nine-track album still managed to become a favorite for fans of the act with tracks such as "Agenda Suicide" and Glass Danse" still finding their way in the band's live performance today. In 2012, the band performed the record in full on tour in support of its deluxe edition.

Alexisonfire - Crisis (August 22) - 15th anniversary

Canadian post-hardcore group Alexisonfire unveiled their most beloved album Crisis on August 22, 2001 via Distort Entertainment. The record, which was their first with drummer Jordan Hastings, became the band's first number one album in their home country. The 11-track release became a major influence on acts such as Cancer Bats and Silverstein.

Slipknot - Iowa (August 28) - 20th anniversary

Slipknot had a lot to live up to following the release of their iconic 1999 self-titled debut album. Unfortunately, this came with some turmoil within the group while recording Iowa, which was released on August 28, 2001 via Roadrunner Records. Charged by the singles "Left Behind" and "My Plague," the 14-track release became the first of five consecutive studio albums to hit the Top 10 for the band.

Streets of Rage - (August 2) - 30th anniversary

Released in 1991, Streets of Rage combined exciting co-op gameplay with massive electronic music from composer Yuzo Koshiro to become an instant hit for Sega. Inspired by other popular co-op games Double Dragon and Final Fight, Streets of Rage would turn into a successful franchise with the recent game in the series (Streets of Rage 4) arriving last year.

Metroid - (August 15) - 35th anniversary

Influenced by the 1979 film Alien, Metroid, which was released on the NES on August 15, 1987, introduced everyone to the Metroidvania genre, which would inspire popular titles such as Guacamelee! and Hollow Knight. The game also turned heads by having a female protagonist, which was a rarity at the time.

Super Nintendo arrives in North America - (August 23) - 30th anniversary

The Super Nintendo finally made it way to North America on August 23, 1991, and it became an instant hit with gamers. Launch titles Super Mario World, F-Zero, and Pilotwings would become iconic titles in the console's history. While the console was discontinued in North America in 1999, the console saw some life in the new millennium with Japan discontinuing it in 2003.

Devil May Cry - (August 23) -20th anniversary

Devil May Cry became one of Capcom's most successful franchises with 23 million copies sold worldwide. The first game in the franchise, which was born from a Resident Evil 4 pitch, helped define 3-D action games and landed on several end of the year lists.

Die Hard Trilogy - (August 31) - 25th anniversary

Many people were skeptical about Probe Entertainment's Die Hard Trilogy, which was released on August 31. The three-in-one game featured a different playing style for each game based on a separate Die Hard movie. Fortunately, the game became a huge success, which led to the 2000 sequel Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the sequel didn't see as much praise as its predecessor.
