System Shock to get live-action series on Binge
Influential action-adventure game System Shock will get the live-action treatment thanks to new streaming platform Binge.
Announced today, the System Shock TV series will be produced by Allan Ungar, who is best known for their work on Uncharted Live Action Fan Film and Gridlocked. Nightdive Studio’s CEO/founder Stephen Kick and director of business development Larry Kuperman will be attached as executive producers.
Kick said this about bringing System Shock to life:
“I’ve always believed that a live-action adaptation of System Shock would be the perfect medium to retell the harrowing story of Citadel station and its rogue AI that subjects the crew to unimaginable horror. We’re very excited to see the talented team at Binge bring System Shock to life in horrifyingly real and new ways."
Binge, which will launch next year, is also working on a live-action adaptation of Ubisoft’s Driver series. More information about Binge can be found here.
Originally released in 1994, System Shock spawned spiritual successors Deus Ex and Bioshock. In 1999, System Shock 2, which earned PC Gamer US's "Best Roleplaying Game" and "Special Achievement in Sound" awards, was released. System Shock 3 was announced in 2015. Originally being developed by OtherSide Entertainment, the game is now being co-developed by OtherSide and Tencent. A remake of the original System Shock game is slated for release on PC. Pre-orders can be made on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Game Store.
