Shadow of the Road postponed to March 2027

Developers Another Angle Games and publisher Owlcat Games decided their forthcoming tactical RPG Shadow of the Road needs more time in the oven.
Revealed today, the game has been delayed to March 10, 2027. The title was originally set for a November 12 release on PC (via Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store). An official statement reads:
We have an important announcement regarding the release of Shadow of the Road.
We know many of you have been eagerly waiting to set foot on the shores of Nippon, and we’re looking forward to welcoming you there. However, as development continues, it has become clear that we need more time to get the game ready. Shadow of the Road is rescheduled to launch on 10 March 2027, instead of its previously planned November release.
This extra time will let us address remaining issues and give the whole experience the polish it deserves. We’ll be making an additional pass to refine the tactical aspect of the encounters and fine-tune combat balance. It is of great importance that the positioning, initiative and ability choices all play their part in every battle - we want each encounter to reward thoughtful planning and provide you with meaningful decisions to make. We’re also tuning the progression systems to make developing your party more engaging: our goal is to give you more reasons to experiment with different skills and adapt your tactics to the challenges.
In short, we get more time to work on the game, and you get a more refined tactical RPG with a more engaging world to explore.
Thank you for your continued support and for travelling alongside us. We’ll keep working to make the wait worthwhile. Look forward to the next updates - we'll be sharing our progress with you along the way!
The road is a little longer than planned, but Nippon awaits.
The journey continues.
A synopsis for Shadow of the Road reads:
Step into 1868 Japan, a land fiercely divided by a brutal civil war between the traditionalist forces of Shōgun Tokugawa and the technologically superior army of Emperor Mutsuhito, backed by the British East Nippon Company. Amidst this turmoil, warriors, spies, and mystical beings navigate a world where magic and machinery intertwine, the jarring contrast of tradition and technology permeating even the landscape, where weathered, ancient temples stand alongside towering steam-powered machines. Experience a country at a pivotal crossroads, torn between its cherished ancient heritage and the relentless march of modernization. Which side will emerge victorious? The fate of Japan hangs in the balance.
Take part in a daring mission led by Tokugawa's own spymaster, who has recruited the rōnin, Satoru and Akira, to protect a mysterious boy with immense, uncontrollable powers. Throughout their arduous journey, new heroes will join their cause, each with their own past and motivations. Together, they will confront tremendous and ever-growing dangers, striving to reclaim their honor and change the course of history. Every choice you make will guide your characters along unique and captivating paths: form new bonds, sever lifelong friendships, or mend fractured family ties. Your decisions will shape who they become.
Take on the role of master strategist as you guide your band of warriors in both combat and conscience. Each character has a variety of backgrounds and skills, as well as their own motivations, desires, and fears... Build a team that compliments your preferred tactics and your personality.
Experience classic, turn-based combat with a samurai-tactics flare. Each team member brings their own distinctive set of skills and abilities to the battlefield. Even their personal goals and relationships influence every encounter. If you can master these social and strategic dynamics, then you and your team will no doubt dominate the battlefield.
