Refund This Game is coming to Steam in October

Cactile Games and dofhouse are joining forces to unveil a game you can get a refund on after you beat it.

Revealed yesterday, Refund This Game is set to launch on October 15 on PC (via Steam). The announcement trailer can be seen below.

Ben Clarke, CEO of Cactile Games said this about the unusual title:

“Like all great collabs between game developers, this all began with a chat over lunch. We knew we wanted to make a game together, and decided to do something in response to the recent discourse about Steam’s refund window. We challenged ourselves to make a super fun game in a very short amount of time; which we’re now challenging players to beat within just two hours! While we genuinely are fine with encouraging people to ‘Refund This Game’ (if they actually beat it!), we really put in a lot of love and effort to make this game as fun as possible for those who decide to keep it”.

dofhouse’s CEO William Jutbring also said:

"This game is a celebration of the player’s right to refunds. We've always cared deeply about consumer rights and freedoms and have a strong distaste for business practices that rely on unfair and exploitative strategies like AI, paywalls, live-service and other dark patterns which only result in worse games and wasted money. So we did the opposite. A hand-crafted platformer that a skilled enough player can purchase, defeat, and refund all in a day's work".

A synopsis for Refund This Game reads:

Refund This Game is a first-person Foddian rage game with the twist stated clearly in its name: if you are able to get all the way to the top of our historically accurate 90’s cyberspace tower within Steam’s refund window, we invite players to refund the game guilt free! We beat it ourselves, so we know it’s possible; but it will not be easy! Just one little mistake could send you tumbling down all the way to the bottom, forcing you to start over from the beginning again.

The only thing you have to help you get to the top is a single pole-vaulting spear. Using only 100% accurate cyber-vaulting pole physics, you'll need to stab your stick into the walls of the tower and fling yourself all the way up to the goal!

Refund This Game can be wishlisted on Steam right now here.
