Previously unreleased Atari Jaguar game American Hero headed to modern consoles and PC this summer
Ziggurat Interactive will be reviving an Atari Jaguar title for a new generation.
Announced today, American Hero will make its way to consoles and PC this summer with a physical release being done by Limited Run Games. For help with the game’s restoration, Ziggurat Interactive teamed up with Empty Clip Studios. The interactive movie video game was originally set for release on the Atari Jaguar, but the console’s poor sales forced the game to be put on the shelf. This version will feature newly recorded voicework from Timothy Bottoms, who plays former military intelligence operative Jack Devon.
Empty Clip Studios CEO Matt Shores said this about the project:
“With American Hero, we sought to balance conservation of the project's original vision with editorial restoration wherever game assets were incomplete. We feel that this was the best approach to resurrect the game and allow players a chance to experience a title that was never released to the public.”
Ziggurat Interactive’s SVP of Business Development Michael Devine said this:
“American Hero is a buried treasure from the Atari archives that was nearly lost to time after the Jaguar CD’s abrupt end. To be in a position to restore and complete this game, and preserve a unique part of video game history is exactly what Ziggurat is all about.”
The game’s synopsis reads:
“Take on the role of Jack, a former intelligence officer brought out of retirement for one last mission to stop the villainous virologist Krueger, who plans to unleash a mind-controlling virus on the citizens of Los Angeles. Your spur-of-the-moment decisions will help or hinder Jack as he tries to find and protect the only scientist who has the cure for this deadly pathogen.”
