Predictions for WrestleMania 40
WrestleMania 40 will prove to be one of the biggest WrestleManias ever when it goes down this weekend at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The two-night event will feature (as of this writing) 13 matches, and we’re giving our predictions for each of them. WrestleMania 40 will be streamed on Peacock starting at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST on Saturday and Sunday. If you’re in Philadelphia this weekend and want to attend WrestleMania, there are still some tickets on sale here.
WrestleMania 40: night one (Saturday, April 6)
Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee vs. Dominik Mysterio and Santos Escobar
While we're getting a long-awaited rematch between the Mysterios, it's not what many folks wanted. A hair vs mask match would've helped elevate the feud between Dominik vs Rey, but this tag team match will still be exciting to watch. This will be a big moment for Dragon Lee, who's been skyrocketing on the main roster as part of the L.W.O. While Rey won last year's battle, we can expect Dominik to help their team to a victory.
Winners: Dominik Mysterio and Santos Escobar
Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair, and Naomi vs. Asuka, Kairi Sane, and Dakota Kai
This six-person tag match will be a major showcase for Jade Cargill, who's been one of the biggest WWE signings in years. The main concern about this match, as expected, involves the tag team championships not being defended. With the inevitable Cargill vs Belair match on the horizon, it would've been a grand idea to have Cargill and Belair join forces to take the tag belts from Asuka and Kairi Sane at the event. This tag team match could still happen at the next PLE. Cargill getting the pinfall is guaranteed for this match.
Winners: Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair, and Naomi
Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship six-pack ladder match: Finn Balor and Damian Priest (c) vs. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, The Miz and R-Truth, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate, Grayson Waller and Austin Theory
A match between The Judgment Day (Balor and Priest) and The Awesome Truth (The Miz and R-Truth) would've been a more ideal offering than a six-team ladder match until you hear the description of the match. This six-pack ladder match will have both sets of championships hovering above the ring, and it ends when both sets of titles are retrieved. This means Raw and Smackdown could have their own tag team champions if one team from each show grabs a pair of titles. We’re expecting The Miz and R-Truth to win from Raw, but there’s a chance Judgment Day can hold onto the belt for a much-needed match between the two teams. For Smackdown, we’re expecting Grayson Waller and Austin Theory to secure the belt.
Winners: The Miz & R-Truth (The Awesome Truth) for Raw and Grayson Waller and Austin Theory for Smackdown
Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso
Jey vs Jimmy at WrestleMania was bound to happen after Jimmy managed to cost Jey championship gold on a couple of occasions. With Jey gaining a massive rise in momentum since splitting from their brother, it makes sense to give them the win. Somewhere down the line, the two brothers will reunite, but right now, they're both showcasing some prime chops in their singles run.
Winner: Jey Uso
WWE Intercontinental Championship match: Gunther (c) vs Sami Zayn
While people adore Sami Zayn, this isn't the match many people wanted. For months, we presumed Chad Gable would take down Gunther at WrestleMania. The former Tag Team champion delivered big time as part of Alpha Academy, and many hoped his contributions would lead to a big-time match. Unless Gable gets added at the last minute, we're gonna give it to Gunther and hope Gable can win the title from the powerful Austrian wrestler at a later date.
Winner: Gunther
WWE Women's World Championship match: Rhea Ripley (c) vs Becky Lynch
The outcome of Ripley vs Lynch is a tough one to predict. Ripley has been dominant as the Women's World Champion since winning the belt at last year's Mania, but Lynch turned heads and gained praise with their (surprisingly) first run as NXT Women's Champion. Both competitors will bring their A-game to this massive match, but we're giving this one to Lynch. Following their title loss, we're predicting a big rivalry between Ripley and Jade Cargill.
Winner: Becky Lynch
The Rock and Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins
In one of the most anticipated WrestleMania main events in years, this tag team match will be nothing short of explosive. This will be The Rock's first proper WrestleMania match in over a decade (we refuse to acknowledge WrestleMania 32 here), and everyone will be watching to see the Hollywood star in action. The Rock & Roman Reigns need the win to send off night one in a worried state ala Avengers: Infinity War.
Winner: The Rock and Roman Reigns
WrestleMania 40 night two (Sunday, April 7)
Philadelphia street fight: The Pride (Bobby Lashley, Montez Ford, and Angelo Dawkins) vs. Final Testament (Karrion Kross, Akam, and Rezar)
The Pride and Final Testament have been at each other's throats for months, and this Mania match will find both teams simply destroying each other. While all three members of The Pride have had their WrestleMania moments, the same can't be said about the members of Final Testament, who've never competed at WrestleMania before. A win here will give Kross & Co. a much-needed momentum boost.
Winner: Final Testament
LA Knight vs. AJ Styles
If CM Punk never came back to the WWE, we'd probably get LA Knight taking on Seth Rollins for the championship. While things change rapidly in the world of professional wrestling, LA Knight's match with AJ Styles will be an absolute banger. After not appearing at WrestleMania last year despite saying “WrestleMania will get that LA Knight moment", we can expect LA Knight to get the win and make good on that statement.
Winner: LA Knight
WWE United States Championship match: Logan Paul (c) vs Kevin Owens and Randy Orton in a triple threat
Logan Paul will have one of the biggest matches in his short but impactful career as they defend the U.S. Championship against Kevin Owens and Randy Orton. We're giving this win to Orton due to one of Paul's friends accidentally costing them the match. Owens may or may not be part of bigger plans later that night.
Winner: Randy Orton
WWE Women's Championship match: Iyo Sky (c) vs Bayley
Royal Rumble winner Bayley deserved better going into their WrestleMania match. The multi-time champion didn't get a main event spot, and they weren't even featured in advertisements for this year's event. Despite this, Bayley will show everyone why they're one of the best women in the business as they face former friend Iyo Sky to take the WWE's Women's Champion and get their revenge on Damage CTRL.
Winner: Bayley
WWE World Heavyweight Championship match: Seth Rollins (c) vs Drew McIntyre
With the recent announcement of Clash at the Castle taking place in Scotland, everyone will be looking at McIntyre during this match. A WrestleMania win will secure McIntyre's spot in the main event of that forthcoming PLE. There's also the possibility of Damien Priest cashing in their Money In The Bank briefcase after McIntyre wins. Losing the belt minutes after winning it at WrestleMania could drive McIntyre into a more sinister path toward reclaiming the belt. There’s also a slight chance of CM Punk coming to cause some severe interference.
Winner: Drew McIntyre
Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match: Roman Reigns (c) vs Cody Rhodes
Cody will finish their story on night two, but it won't be a smooth ride. With Bloodline Rules, he'll have a hard time going up against Reigns, but this is where things get interesting. Reminiscent of Avengers: Infinity War, you can expect The Bloodline's past foes to come out and aid Cody in securing the win. While Cody wins the title, we're throwing out a bigger prediction that The Rock will misuse their power to order a title match against Cody immediately. With some more interference (possibly John Cena and/or Stone Cold make a quick run-in), Cody will pin The Rock to truly secure the championship.
Following the match, we predict Reigns will disappear while Jimmy and Solo Sikoa try to go after the championship. Jimmy and Sikoa will eventually bump heads and turn on each other, which will effectively end The Bloodline stable. Reigns will make a shocking return later this year to blame The Rock for everything falling apart, which will lead to the inevitable match between Reigns and The Rock at next year’s Mania.
Winner: Cody Rhodes
