Sonic The Hedgehog will be heading to Netflix in 2022.

Announced today, a new animated series titled Sonic Prime will be animated by WildBrain, who previously worked on Netflix’s Carmen Sandiego and The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show. Man of Action Entertainment, who is best known for Ben 10 and Big Hero 6: The Series, will be the showrunners for the 24-episode series. While the show is geared towards younger children, older fans of Sonic will find themselves glued to it.

When it comes to the new series, Netflix Director of Original Animation Dominique Bazay said:

“Sonic is a beloved character and holds a special place in everyone's heart including my own. I spent many hours with the blue blur as a kid and it's a privilege to be able to bring this character everyone knows and loves on a brand new adventure with Netflix -- one that a generation of loyal fans and brand new fans around the world can enjoy.”

Unfortunately, Roger Craig Smith, who began voicing Sonic in 2010, won’t be a part of this series. The voice actor recently revealed they’re done with voicing the beloved cartoon character.

2022 will also see the release of the Sonic the Hedgehog film sequel. Released last year, the Sonic the Hedgehog film earned $319 million worldwide, which makes it the highest-grossing video game film adaptation of all time in North America. The sequel will arrive on April 8, 2022.
