Mr. Big announce final world tour, Japan and Southeast Asia dates this summer
Los Angeles rock band Mr. Big will embark on one last world tour starting this summer.
Announced today, their world tour kicks off with a slew of performances in Japan and Southeast Asia this summer. Newly announced tour dates can be seen below. Dates in South America, Europe, and the United States will take place next year. Those dates will be announced soon.
For this trek, Nick D’Virgilio (Spock’s Beard, Big Big Train) will take over as drummer. This will be the band’s first trek without founding member/drummer Pat Torpey, who passed away in 2018 following a bout with Parkinson's disease. Guitarist Paul Gilbert said this about D’Virgilio’s addition to the band:
“Nick gets close to the spirit of Pat Torpey. Billy, Eric, and I have been really happy with the music we’ve already shared back and forth. I’m impressed with Nick’s level of musical adaptability and breadth of skill. He and I have done some recording together, and I was blown away with his groove, and how he just played what fit the song. If the song requires him to be more progressive and stand out, he will stand out. But if the song requires him to groove, he will groove. That’s actually a rare thing, and it really fits in with what we do in MR. BIG.”
For this final tour, the band will also perform their 1991 sophomore studio album Lean into It, which features the band’s number-one hit "To Be with You." Bassist Billy Sheehan said this about their breakthrough album, which sold over one million copies in the United States:
“LEAN INTO IT was put together much like a movie, with an opening scene that lets us get into the dialogue and find out what the story is. And then you get the love scene, the car chase, and the punchline ending. I think it’s a perfectly sequenced album.”
