Los Angeles singer-songwriter CASEY releases new single "I Like You"
Los Angeles singer-songwriter CASEY has unveiled their new single “I Like You” today.
CASEY said this about the new track:
“I actually wrote I Like You in the fall of 2020 and wrote it about someone that, in my mind, didn't deserve it. I now like to tell myself that I wrote it about falling back in love with myself...or at least trying to find that version of myself that existed in elementary school. I am constantly reminded that life will never be like that again, so I really try to make my music reflect that childlike aspect because life is hard enough as it is! This song is definitely old and has been on the backburner for so long because I wanted to part with the emotions that I initially had behind it.”
The song comes with a music video directed by the artist and Katerina Volkov, which can be seen below. Aside from directing the visual, CASEY also worked on the animation. When it comes to what drives their creativity, the artist said:
“I started writing music when I was 8 years old and have always had a love for imagery and visuals. I actually taught myself a majority of the programs within Adobe Premiere and created the music videos myself with the help of my roommate who was kind enough to film me. I am really inspired by the 90s/2000s era and the kidcore aesthetic because it reminds me of being in elementary school before I really had the ability to think of anything outside of my friends and daily adolescent life. I try to make my content reflect that as much as possible which mainly can be seen on my Instagram (and hopefully the music videos!).
A lot of my inspiration is also pulled from KidPix if you are familiar with it. I have always had such a vivid imagination when it comes to making music and my career revolving around it, but that definitely changed once I attended college. I went to Drexel University for my undergraduate degree in music business and I felt myself falling out of love with music for those 4 years. After getting out of a long term relationship that wasn't right, I fell back in love with music again and have reclaimed what I initially sought out to do. I've written more music in the past year than I have during my 4 years of college.”
“I Like You” is available on digital services right now. More music from CASEY will be released soon.
