Limited Run Games opening first-ever retail store this Saturday in North Carolina
Beloved video game distributor Limited Run Games will unveil their first-ever retail store this weekend.
Limited Run Retail will have its grand opening this Saturday (April 30) at the MacGregor Village shopping center in Cary, North Carolina. Opening its doors at 8 a.m. EST, the grand opening will also make its way to the MacGregor Village parking lot starting at 10 a.m. EST with guest signings, pop-up shops, and card swaps taking place. Special guests slated to appear include Shantae co-creators Matt and Erin Bozon, River City Girls co-directors Adam Tierney and Bannon Rudis, and members of Mega64.
The first 100 people in line will earn a special swag bag while all attendees will gain a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Limited Run Games prize pack and an exclusive event trading card. The store will be closed on Sunday, May 1 before opening up again on Friday for its normal hours (Friday 12–9 ET, Saturday 10–9, and Sunday 11–6).
The physical store has been in the works for over two years. Limited Run Games CEO Josh Fairhurst said this about wanting to own a physical store during a global pandemic:
“This is a weird transition, but the pandemic hit me hard early on and made me feel more disconnected from other people than I'd ever felt in my life. I thought about how I could fix that, and I kept coming back to this idea of opening a physical store so I'd have a chance to connect with enthusiastic Limited Run fans. It'd help kill my feelings of isolation, and it'd scratch my lifelong itch to own a store.
A few months into the pandemic, I just said, ‘screw it, this is something we really need to do—for my own sanity and because I think it would be awesome.’ I kind of dove headfirst into it at that point, and we started scoping out potential retail space.”
More information about the space can be read on the Limited Run Games’ blog.
