L.A. Comic Con 2024: Five panels worth checking out
L.A. Comic Con makes its return to the Los Angeles Convention Center this weekend, and thousands of people will arrive to engage in one of the area's biggest conventions. We look at five panels worth catching at the convention in between walking the show floor and admiring some great cosplay.

80s Kids Unite: Was 1982 the Greatest Year in Geek History?

Hosts from the podcast 80s Kids Unite along with 1982 Greatest Geek Year Ever! documentary producer Scott Mantz and Making Megaforce director Bob Lindenmayer will join forces to discuss if this year was the best year ever for geeks. During the panel, attendees can take part in a trivia contest (hopefully one based on the year 1982).

One key element that makes horror films pop is the music. Composers Andrew Scott Bell (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey), Sean Keller (Halloween Kills), Rob Reider (Happy Horror Days), Matt Glass (Ghosts of the Ozarks), Nomi Abadi (Ivar Tunnel: Shook Ones), Holly Amber Church (Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities), and John Andrew Grush and Taylor Newton Scott aka The Newton Brothers (Doctor Sleep) will discuss their method of making some frightening music for horror films. The panel will be moderated by Anastasia Washington.

10 Ton Press has been continuing Todd Loren's legacy of bringing rock and roll bands to comic books via their Rock & Roll Biographies series. John Hageman (publisher/creator), Mel Smith (writer/ creator), Ruben Najera (writer), El Kartun (artist), and Spike Steffenhagen (writer) will discuss the series, which has delivered colorful stories about Iron Maiden, Foo Fighters, and Misfits. All attendees will receive a free Slayer Rock & Roll Biographies comic book.

Dr. Earyn McGee, Gabriel-Philip Santos, and more from Los Angeles Zoo and Cosplay for Science will discuss the scientific aspect of Delicious in Dungeon, which has been one of 2024's most beloved anime series.
Is Magic: The Gathering The Best It's Ever Been?

Over the years, Magic: The Gathering has seen a massive influx of players thanks to MTG: Arena as well as collaborations with Fallout, The Lord of the Rings, and Warhammer 40,000. Magic: The Gathering content creators Crim "The Asian Avenger," Joe Johnson "BlackNeto," Ben Batemen, and MrScotty Baker will team up with panel host Evan Perkings to discuss the recent rise of Magic The Gathering and look at the future of the franchise.
