I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream hits consoles on March 27
Beloved P.C. game I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream will make its way to modern consoles later this year.
The game will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on March 27. A console announcement trailer can be seen here.
Nightdive Studios head Stephen Kick said this about launching the game on console:
“It’s been nearly 12 years since Nightdive Studios re-released the iconic I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream on PC, and we’re so excited to once again give it renewed life by releasing it for the first time on consoles. Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen a lot of love for the original game and Harlan Ellison’s short story across social media platforms like TikTok and Reddit. It only felt right that we helped make this title more accessible and further preserve its legacy.”
A synopsis for I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream reads:
Based on the post-apocalyptic short story by renowned author Harlan Ellison, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream plunges players deep within the center of the earth, where they play as each of the five survivors who have been trapped in the bowels of the insane AI AM for the past hundred and nine years. Fueled by his intense hatred for the human race, AM has spent the past century torturing and toying with each character as he sees fit, culminating in a final game: an appropriately meta adventure-style quest for each of them, teasing the prospect of freedom if they succeed.
Each victim is subjected to a personalized psychodrama designed by AM to explore their greatest fears and feelings of guilt. Players go through each character’s personalized scenario, discovering the truth about each of their pasts and why AM chose to keep them alive and prolong their suffering. Whether they have the strength to overcome his games and face their demons…well, that’s for the player to decide.
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is a fully voice-acted experience, upping the immersion and giving the horrors taking place even more impact. Additionally, AM, the megalomaniacal all-powerful techno god, is voiced by the legend himself: Harlan Ellison.
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, which is based on Ellison’s short story of the same name, was originally released on PC in 1995. Nightdive Studios re-released the title on Steam back in 2013. In 2016, the game saw a mobile phone port thanks to DotEmu.
