Five panels to catch at Comic-Con Special Edition 2021
This weekend, San Diego Comic-Con will return in a smaller state with Comic-Con Special Edition. While the convention will be smaller than usual, it’ll still feature a slew of panels designed for everyone. If you’re looking for some great panels to see at the convention, these five panels are worth your time. Badges for the event are still on sale here. Comic-Con Special Edition will take place from November 26 through November 28 at San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California.
Friday, November 26
Working in Indie Comics
3 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Room 9
Trying to get into indie comics can be hard, but this panel will feature some noticeable names looking to give some pointers. David Lucarelli (Tinseltown), Madeleine Holly-Rosing (Boston Metaphysical Society), Don Nguyen (Pablo the Gorilla), Nicholas Doan (Monster Elementary), and Christie Shinn (Demon B!tch) will be available for the event. Folks who ask a question during the Q&A session will get a free comic.
Ghostbusters: Law for the Afterlife
7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

With the recent release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, many people might feel the need to catch a ghost themselves. Fortunately, members of the legal team will be on hand to determine if busting ghosts is an actual crime. U.S. Magistrate Judge Stacie Beckerman (U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon), Christine Peek (McManis Faulkner), Bethany Bengfort (Durie Tangri), and Kathy Steinman (Deputy City Attorney for the City of San Diego) will take part in the panel, which is being moderated by Joshua Gilliland (Greenan, Peffer, Sallander, & Lally LLP).
Saturday, November 27
Z2 Comics: Chuck D and Vince Staples
1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Room 6DE
Chuck D and Vince Staples will be on hand to discuss their forthcoming comic book projects on Z2 Comics. Chuck D will be unveiling Apocalypse 91: Revolution Never Sleeps, which is a sequel to Public Enemy's beloved album Apocalypse 91: The Enemy Strikes Black. Staples will be releasing Limbo Beach, which follows a group of misfit kids on Limbo Beach. Z2's Jeremy Atkins will moderate the panel.
Major Grom: Plague Doctor. American Dream Made in Russia.
3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

This past summer, Major Grom: Plague Doctor did the unthinkable and became a top 10 hit for Netflix in 64 countries. Major Grom: Plague Doctor writer/producer Evgeniy Eronin will discuss how the film became a surprise hit and discuss the film's comic book origins.

When it comes to smaller publishers, getting noticed by comic book blogs can be a bit challenging. Journalists Tim Chizmar (Fangoria, First Comics News, co-chair of the Horror Writers Association), Kallie Chris (Conversations with the Void), Glenn Hauman (Comic Mix), Jez Ibelle (First Comics News, Geek-a-pedia), Rich Johnston (Bleeding Cool), Jason LiVecchi (NBC News), and Rob Salkowitz (ICv2, Forbes) will give hints on how to ensure press for future projects during this panel moderated by Rik Offenberger (First Comics News, Archie Comics) Independent creators Michael Kingston (Headlocked Comics) and Josh Waldrop (Red Gorilla Comics) will also be on hand to talk about their experiences with getting their projects on major blogs.
