Emo Nite brought Third Eye Blind and more to Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles (review, photos)
Elder emos in Los Angeles made their way to Avalon Hollywood last Friday for another installment of Emo Nite, which is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Much like any other Emo Nite, Friday night's installment featured a handful of special guest DJs. Vanderpump Rules’ Katie Maloney and Dayna Kathan got the crowd reliving their high school days with My Chemical Romance's "Helena" and Finch's "Letters To You" while Beauty School Dropout delivered emo hits such as Fall Out Boy's "Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy" and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' "Face Down." While it was Emo Nite, a slew of nu-metal tunes such as Linkin Park's "Faint," Papa Roach's "Last Resort," and Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff" opened up several moshpits throughout the night.
The highlight of the night was a surprise acoustic performance from beloved rock band Third Eye Blind. Stephan Jenkins and Colin Creev sat on the side of the stage to perform "Jumper" and a cover of Paramore's "The Only Exception." As expected, the packed nightclub turned into a sea of cell phones as attendees sang along while capturing this special moment.
Stephan and Colin weren't done with a simple two-song performance for the evening as the pair hopped behind the DJ booth for a special set. Kicking things off with a mashup of Third Eye Blind's "Never Let You Go" and Blink-182's "Feeling This," the Third Eye Blind members had the crowd screaming along to Wheatus' "Teenage Dirtbag" and The Killers' "Mr. Brightside." Third Eye Blind will be on tour this summer with Yellowcard and Arizona. More information about the trek and tickets can be found here.
The main stage wasn't the only area where folks could rock out to their favorite tunes; DJs were in several rooms giving attendees tunes to hum along to as they traversed through Avalon Hollywood. Aside from DJ sets, live music from Nervous Kids, MVSSIE, and Not My Weekend gave attendees a chance to check out some rising acts.
