Eli Roth to direct movie based on Borderlands video game
The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that Eli Roth will direct a film based on the popular video game franchise Borderlands. Roth will be joined by Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Erik Feig, who will co-produce the film. Craig Mazin, who won two Emmys for their work on HBO’s Chernobyl, will write the film’s script. No release date has been set for the movie.
Roth is mainly known for their horror films, including Cabin Fever, Hostel, and The Green Inferno. “I’m so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands, and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team and studio,” the director said in a statement. The film will be released through Lionsgate.
Last year, Borderlands 3 was released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Google Stadia. The game won for Best Multiplayer Game at last year’s Gamescom. Borderlands 3 has sold over eight million copies so far. A new campaign add-on will be revealed at PAX East next week.
