Counter-Strike 2 gets a surprise launch today
Counter-Strike players don’t have to wait any longer for the next installment of the beloved FPS series.
Today, Counter-Strike 2 gained a surprise launch on Steam as an update for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Counter-Strike 2 was announced back in March with a limited technical test taking place during the summer.
A statement from the team reads:
Come take a look around. Counter-Strike 2 is the largest technical leap forward in Counter-Strike's history, supporting new features today and updates for years to come.
If you're a returning player you'll find your favorite maps and matchmaking modes right where you left them, along with a revamped Premier mode where you can establish your all-new CS Rating. Rise through the ranks and see where you stand on global and regional leaderboards.
For new players, learn the basics with some offline training and jump into Casual and Deathmatch to hone your skills. Once you've unlocked Competitive matchmaking you'll be off to the races.

Aside from carrying over all CS:GO items to Counter-Strike 2, the new game will include all-new CS ratings with the updated premier mode, global and regional leaderboards, apgraded and overhauled maps, game-changing dynamic smoke grenades, tick-rate-independent gameplay, and redesigned visual effects and audio.
