BTS, Power Trip, Black Violin nominated for 2021 Grammys
The nominations for the 2021 Grammys arrived today, and some noticeable acts have gained their first nominations.
Beloved K-pop outfit BTS gained their first Grammy nomination for “Dynamite,” which is up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Released in August, the single earned the group Guinness World Records for most-viewed YouTube video in 24 hours, most-viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours, and most-viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group. The track is featured on the band’s new album Be, which was released last week.
Hip hop duo Black Violin earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album with Take the Stairs. Released in 2019, the album features the singles “One Step,” “Impossible Is Possible,” and “Dreamer.” Black Violin recently released their Christmas album Give Thanks.
Thrash metal band Power Trip earned a Best Metal Performance for their live version of “Executioner's Tax (Swing of the Axe)” taken from their live album Live in Seattle 05.28.2018. Two months after the live album’s release, tragedy struck the band as vocalist Riley Gale passed away at the age of 34.
