A fan-made musical based on Jimmy Eat World's music is being developed
Beloved rock band Jimmy Eat World are getting the musical treatment thanks to one fan.
Seattle-based actor/writer/director Jordan Henderson is turning Jimmy Eat World’s discography into a full-blown musical filled with a live backing band providing the music. Henderson recently held a preview night for Bleed American: The Musical at Jules Maes' Saloon where attendees got to witness a few scenes live. One scene from the preview night can be seen below.
A synopsis for Bleed American: The Musical reads:
Many of Jimmy Eat World's songs have a political element which are the driving force behind this work. Following three people in a communal relationship and living in poverty, what happens when a young politician shows up and promises something better? The musical is a journey of finding out what it means to be yourself and the importance of standing up to oppression. With everything crumbling and the physical world being destroyed by climate disasters, is there a way for these three activists to make a meaningful impact on the world?
When it came to deciding on what songs to include, Jordan wanted to keep his own bias out of it. Instead, he decided to start writing the story and then would include songs that seemed to fit with the situation. This came with a lot of listening of Jimmy Eat World's entire discography and made him easily within the top 0.1% of listeners on Spotify (an insignificant but personal goal). A wide range of their music from all their eras have made it into this production but if you feel like your personal favorite should've made it, just know that the writer's own favorite song did not make the cut.
A Kickstarter for the project can be viewed here. For $25, backers can get a digital copy of the filmed musical and a copy of the playbill. The project needs to reach its goal of $40,000 by Monday, March 25 at 7:41 p.m. PST. More information about Bleed American: The Musical can be found here.
