10 panels to catch at New York Comic Con 2022

New York Comic Con arrives this weekend, and there’s a bevy of panels awaiting attendees of all fandoms. We look at 10 panels worth checking out during the pop culture convention, which takes place from October 6 through October 9 at the Javits Center in New York City. A handful of Thursday tickets are available to the general public here. Sold-out tickets can be purchased on ticket exchange platform Lyte. Thursday, Oct 6

PLAYBILL presents “The Big Broadway Nerd Panel"
Time: 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Room: 406.2

Broadway is filled with nerdy people whose love for the culture inspired their work. This panel will feature some of the brightest names in the field geeking out about their favorite fandom. The panel includes The Sandman star Mason Alexander Park, who earned a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Performer in a Musical with their work in Cabaret.

Where Were You in 1992? A Look Back at Iconic Music Videos
Time: 6:15 PM - 7:15 PM
Room: 406.1

Music videos in the '90s delivered some of the most iconic moments in pop culture. From Nirvana rocking out in a school gym in "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to The Verve's vocalist Richard Ashcroft bumping into people for "Bitter Sweet Symphony," many music videos remain in our memory today. Music Video Time Machine managing editor Stephen Pitalo will take a look back at music videos released in 1992. Former MTV VJ Karen "Duff" Duffy and music video directors Paul Rachman (Temple of the Dog and Alice in Chains) and Rich Murray (the Spin Doctors and Kris Kross) will discuss how the music scene evolved thanks to some amazing music videos.

Darryl Makes Comics Presents:Comics, Creatives, and Culture

Darryl DMC McDaniels will bring a slew of artists on board to discuss the future of Darryl Makes Comics and their new single "Me and My Microphone," which is being promoted via a special comic book. Amy Chu, David Proch, Dean Haspiel, Ming Chen, N Steven Harris, and Riggs Morales will take part in the panel.

Chainsaw Man Dub Cast Panel and US Premiere
Time: 12:45 PM - 1:45 PM
Room: Empire Stage

Before Chainsaw Man gets released worldwide, New York Comic Con will host the world premiere of the debut episode's English dub. Alongside the screening, voice talent Ryan Colt Levy (English voice of Denji), Suzie Yeung (English voice of Makima), Reagan Murdock (English voice of Aki), and Sarah Wiedenheft (English voice of Power) will have a special discussion about the show.

Japanese Music on the Rise
Time: 9:15 PM - 10:15 PM

Over the years, a slew of Japanese music acts has found major success in the West from the metal/ska fusion of SiM to the Jpop offering of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. Autumn Willey, Elizabeth Jankowski, Gabrielle Sharman, John O'Keefe, Meraiah Boden, and Nicola DiTocco will discuss how this music gained such a major impact on the charts.

Toei Animation & Crunchyroll Presents: One Piece Film Red Panel

Days after its North American premiere, Toei Animation and Crunchyroll will deliver a special panel for the forthcoming movie One Piece Film Red featuring a slew of voice talent from the movie, including Colleen Clinkenbeard and Chris Sabat, as well as American and Japanese film crew members. One Piece Film Red will arrive next month in movie theaters.

The Making of Transformers: Beast Wars
Time: 1:45 PM - 2:45 PM

Debuting in 1996, Beast Wars became a major moment in the Transformers franchise with its use of computer animation. The show and its accompanying sequel Beast Machines drew a slew of new eyes to the Transformers universe. Moderated by Anthony Gaud, The Making of Transformers: Beast Wars will go through the show's beginnings to its high praise from fans worldwide. Dean Knuckles, Ken Henderson, Kevin Mowrer, Owen Hurley, Phil Mitchell, and Tyrone Keyes will be on hand for the discussion.

Sailor Moon Fan Club: Celebrating 30 Years of Sailor Moon

2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the iconic Sailor Moon anime series, and fans have been celebrating worldwide. Sailor Moon Fan Club podcast host Victoria L. Johnson will be joined by Netflix's Geeked co-host Princess Weekes, comic book creator Shauna J. Grant, and Crunchyroll's Crunchycast co-host Cristal Marie to discuss the show's impact.

Cosplay Central Crown Championships

The Cosplay Central Crown Championships will go down at New York Comic Con, and a slew of cosplayers will show off their stuff in front of a huge audience. This will be one of the biggest events of the convention, so get there early to grab a fantastic seat.

Toonami Rewind: The Era that Saved Anime
Time: 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Room: Pop Asia Stage

Launching in 1997, Toonami became an anime paradise with programs such as Naruto, Zatch Bell!, and SD Gundam Force appearing on the animation block. Nerds Know will be on hand to talk about some of the best anime series to appear on Toonami over the years.
