U.K. post-punk band Do Nothing announce debut album 'Snake Sideways,' release "Amoeba" single + game
U.K. post-punk band Do Nothing are dropping their debut album this summer.
Snake Sideways, which follows the band’s 2021 EP Glueland, will be released on June 30. To celebrate the announcement, a new single titled “Amoeba” has been unveiled. Vocalist Chris Bailey said this about the new song:
“As far as I remember ‘Amoeba’ is about my girlfriend leaving the house to go to work and be useful, and me laying on the sofa feeling dumb and watching annoying news on TV. It muses about how the media decides what we all care about on a two week rotation - sometimes it feels like we all get angry about something for a few weeks until the TV/internet decides it’s time for us to think about something else. It’s also about the fact that making music can often feel pretty unimportant; some folks are firefighters while I spend all my time massaging my own ego.”
An accompanying music video for "Amoeba” was directed by Clump Collective, who said this about the visual:
“When we first listened to ‘Amoeba’, we felt there was a spooky element to it - old horror movie monsters and prosthetics immediately came to mind. We liked the idea of taking a monster out of its natural habitat and dropping him into a world that he doesn’t quite understand. A lizard man crashing a life drawing class felt like the perfect fit.”
An accompanying web game based on “Amoeba” inspired by the iconic mobile game Snake has also been unveiled here. To play the game, which features an 8-bit version of “Amoeba,” you’ll have to pre-save/pre-add the Snake Sideways album on Spotify and Apple Music. The top three winners on the leaderboard by June 29 will earn prizes, including a pair of tickets to one of the band’s upcoming shows. Physical pre-orders for Snake Sideways can be made here.
Do Nothing will have a slew of performances throughout the U.K. and Europe in the following months. Tour dates and tickets can be found here.
