The 2022 installment of the New York Game Awards will honor Tim Schafer.

Announced today, the Double Fine Productions founder will earn the Andrew Yoon Legend Award at the virtual ceremony, which takes place on February 1. Schafer got their start working at LucasArts as a writer forThe Secret of Monkey Island before designing the games Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, and Grim Fandango. In 2000, they founded Double Fine Productions for the release of the cult classic platformer Psychonauts. Following Psychonauts release, Schafer worked on titles such as Brutal Legend, Massive Chalice, and Broken Age.

New York Videogame Critics Circle founder Harold Goldberg said this about honoring Schafer:

“Tim Schafer is a master craftsman of language and animation. Starting with his formative years at LucasArts, where he supplied the killer dialog in The Secret of Monkey Island, he has consistently honed his humor and satire to make great games. Who else draws from Charles Dickens and Kurt Vonnegut for character names? His skill and craft shine through an incredible body of work, and we are honored to present him with the Andrew Yoon Legend Award.”

The New York Game Awards will be livestreamed on Twitch on February 1 at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST.
