The Tubs announce new album 'Cotton Crown,' release "Freak Mode" single

U.K. indie rock band The Tubs will deliver their sophomore album next year.

Revealed today, Cotton Crown will be released on March 7 via Trouble In Mind. The nine-track album revolves around vocalist Owen ‘O’ Williams’ life following the suicide of their mother Charlotte Greig, who was a folk singer and novelist. The album’s cover is a photo of Williams being breast fed by their mother in a graveyard, which was originally used as the cover art for Greig’s 7-inch folk single “Woman with a Black Name.”

A new single from the record titled “Freak Mode” comes with a music video filmed and edited by drummer Taylor Stewart, which can be seen here. Williams said this about the new song:

“[It’s] about dating while grieving the death of my mother. It’s about making wacky tragicomic romantic assumptions and being an emotional freak, but also kind of being self aware about that and explaining it to whoever you’re shagging.”

Pre-orders for Cotton Crown can be made here. This is the follow-up to the band’s 2023 debut album Dead Meat.

This week, The Tubs will be playing a string of shows in the U.K. alongside F—ked Up. Tour dates can be seen below. Tickets are on sale to the general public right now
